Eternal Telethon
Eternal Telethon is an open collective working to establish an artist retirement home at the Salton Sea by hosting "live" webcast. Founded in 2009 by Ina Viola Blasius, John Burtle, Akina Cox, Chad Dilley, and Niko Solorio the Eternal Telethon has featured over 200 artist. John Burtle
John Burtle (born in 1984) is an American artist who works in performance, Public Art, sculpture, and broadcast media. The artist lives in Los Angeles, often changes the spelling of their name, and frequently works with in groups . Work Burtle's work questions how people support themselves and others. He has regularly collaborated with others and also makes art individually. The subject matter of his sculptures and paintings ranges from gifts of affection such as flowers and candies to symbols of social groups: a school of fish, birds nest. Sculptures and paintings are displayed physically on top of each other. A retirement home – sometimes called an old people's home or old age home, although ''old people's home'' can also refer to a nursing home – is a multi-residence housing facility intended for the elderly. Typically, each person or couple in the home has an apartment-style room or suite of rooms. Additional facilities are provided within the building. Salton Sea
The Salton Sea is a shallow, landlocked, highly saline body of water in Riverside and Imperial counties at the southern end of the U.S. state of California. It lies on the San Andreas Fault within the Salton Trough that stretches to the Gulf of California in Mexico. Over millions of years, the Colorado River has flowed into the Imperial Valley and deposited alluvium (soil), creating fertile farmland, building up the terrain, and constantly moving its main course and river delta. For thousands of years, the river has alternately flowed into the valley, or diverted around it, creating either a saline lake called Lake Cahuilla, or a dry desert basin, respectively. When the Colorado River flows into the valley, the lake level depends on river flows and the balance between inflow and evaporative loss. The California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) is a private art university in Santa Clarita, California. Machine Project
Machine Project was a Los Angeles based not-for-profit arts organization and community event space. History Founded by Mark Allen, Machine Project launched in 2003 with its inaugural show, ‘Tom Jennings - Story Teller,’ an installation produced by Tom Jennings, which was displayed from December 6, 2003 until January 24, 2004. Public Fiction
Public Fiction is a curatorial project and quarterly publication based in Los Angeles. It was founded in 2010 by Lauren Mackler. Graphic designer and curator Lauren Mackler moved from the east coast to L.A. to open Public Fiction in 2010. Public Fiction resides in an unmarked storefront in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Neither a commercial gallery nor a not-for-profit organization, the space hosts exhibitions for three months on a theme, within which are staged solo shows, group shows, performances, artist talks, screenings, and dinners, connected to that theme, all of it culminating into a publication. The Hammer Museum
The Hammer Museum, located in Haines, Alaska, U.S., is the first museum in the world dedicated to hammers. The museum was founded in 2002 and became a non-profit organization in 2004. It features over 1,400 hammers and related tools, ranging from ancient times through the colonial days to the industrial era. It has 8,000 artifacts still in storage. KCHUNG Radio
KCHUNG is a freeform radio station in the Chinatown neighborhood of Los Angeles as KChung Radio 1630 AM. KCHUNG broadcasts over 200 shows a month on 1630 AM and online through the station's website. The station operates according to what are generally known as the Part 15 rules, which cover very-low-power RF transmissions without a license. History KCHUNG Radio was started by Solomon Bothwell in 2011. Harsh Patel created the initial graphic design, and Luke Fischbeck helped with programming. The station's first broadcast was in March 2011. KCHUNG has hosted many artists, musicians, poets, and has a reputation for hosting programming that might not be allowed on other stations. Telethons
A telethon (a portmanteau of " television" and "marathon") is a televised fundraising event that lasts many hours or even days, the purpose of which is to raise money for a charitable, political or other purportedly worthy cause. Most telethons feature heavy solicitations for pledges (promises to donate funds at a later time) by masters of ceremonies or hosts, who are often local celebrities or media personalities combined with variety show style entertainment such as singers, bands and instrumentalists. In some cases, telethons feature content related to the cause being supported, such as interviews with charitable beneficiaries, tours of charity-supported projects, or pre-taped sequences.
