Nishat Khan
Nishat Khan (born 25 October 1960) is an Indian sitar player from an illustrious musical family and the foremost sitar virtuoso of his generation. As a composer and music producer he has collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians such as Paco Peña, John McLaughlin, Philip Glass and Evelyn Glennie. His sitar concerto "Gate of the Moon" premiered with the BBC National Orchestra for the Proms at Royal Albert Hall in 2013. Early life Khan was born in 1960 in Kolkata, India. Rajeev Janardan
Rajeev Janardan (born 1967) is an Indian classical sitar player of the Imdadkhani gharana (school), taught by Bimalendu Mukherjee. He lives in New Delhi. At the age of 15, Janardan won the All India Music Competition. He also won the Prayag Sangit Samiti All-India Music Competition and the Sur Singar Samsad competition in Mumbai, and at the age of 19, he became an A grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. Following on from good reviews for a performance at the India International Centre in 1996, he has performed extensively both within India and overseas, including Switzerland in 2008. Arvind Parikh
Arvind Parikh (born 19 October 1927) is an Indian classical sitar player. Early life Arvind was born in Ahmedabad into a Gujarati business family with cultural and spiritual influences. His father Natwar Lal was a businessman and mother Chandra kala ben was a painter. His primary and secondary education continued in a nationalist school. In 1944, at the age of 17, he moved to Mumbai and started learning from sitar player Vilayat Khan. As per Khan's wish Parikh entered Bombay University, along with the music education from Khan. Parikh got admission in Elphinstone College, Bombay. His musical education continued uninterrupted for 60 years throughout his performing career, from 1944 to 2004 until Khan's death. Anupama Bhagwat is an Indian sitar maestro. Early life Born in Bhilai, India, Bhagwat was introduced to playing sitar at age 9 by Shri. R. N. Verma. At 13, she started training under Bimalendu Mukherjee, doyen of the Imdadkhani gharana. She stood first in the All India Radio competition in 1994 and was awarded a national scholarship by the Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development of India. Bimalendu Mukherjee (2 January 1925 - 22 January 2010) was an Indian classical sitar player and music teacher. Mukherjee is a learned and eclectic musician – although he was an Imdadkhani sitar student of Enayat Khan, a full list of his teachers also includes sitarist Balaram Pathak, khyal singers Badri Prasad and Jaichand Bhatt of the Patiala and Kirana gharanas, Rampur gharana beenkar Jyotish Chandra Chowdhury, sarangi and esraj players Halkeram Bhat (Maihar gharana) and Chandrikaprasad Dube (Gaya gharana) and pakhavaj player Madhavrao Alkutkar. Shahid Parvez Khan
Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan (commonly known as Shahid Parvez, born 14 October 1954) is an Indian classical sitar maestro from the Imdadkhani gharana. He represents the seventh generation of the Etawah Gharana as its primary exponent. He is praised especially for the vocalistic phrasing and quality of his raga improvisations, known as "Gayaki Ang." Rais Khan
Ustad Rais Khan ( ur, ; 25 November 19396 May 2017) was a Pakistani sitarist. At his peak he was regarded as one of the greatest sitar players of all time. He continued performing till his last days. He moved from India to Pakistan in 1986, where he took up Pakistani citizenship. In 2017, Khan was awarded Pakistan's third highest civilian honour, the Sitara-i-Imtiaz.
