Estonian Embassy ( et, Eesti Suursaatkond Washingtonis) is the Estonia, Republic of Estonia's diplomatic mission to the United States. It is located at 2131 Massachusetts Avenue (Washington, D.C.), Massachusetts Avenue, in Northwest, Washington, D.C., at the intersection with 22nd Street in the Embassy Row neighborhood. The Republic of Estonia, along with Latvia and Lithuania, Baltic Legations (1940–1991), maintained a diplomatic mission throughout the years of Soviet Union, Soviet domination; the Estonian Consulate General was based in New York City at 9 Rockefeller Plaza. With Estonia's independence in 1991, the legation quickly sought a new home, and in 1994 purchased the expansive rowhouse, which takes advantage of one of Washington's many angled intersections with an entrance through its corner turret, behind a Greek Doric order, Greek Doric screen. Kalorama is a neighborhood in Northwest Washington, D.C., United States. It includes the Kalorama Triangle Historic District and Sheridan-Kalorama Historic District. It is named after the Kalorama mansion. Kalorama Triangle is bordered by Connecticut Avenue, Columbia Road, Calvert Street, and Rock Creek Park. This is a list of diplomatic missions of Estonia. Estonia reestablished a foreign ministry on 12 April 1990, while the country was slowly restoring independence from the Soviet Union, with the symbols and instruments of sovereignty progressively being reintroduced. The events in August the following year when a coup attempt failed in Moscow accelerated the progress towards independence. The staff of the ministry worked a seven-day work week with threadbare facilities and supplies until January 1992, after they had secured Estonia's international recognition, and opened missions in New York City, Helsinki, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Bonn, Paris, and Moscow. Landon School
Landon School is a private, college preparatory school for boys in grades 3–12, with an enrollment of approximately 680 students, in Bethesda, Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C. Background Paul Landon Banfield and his wife, Mary Lee, founded Landon School in 1929. The school's first location was a former residence in the Sheridan-Kalorama neighborhood of Washington, D.C., now home to the Embassy of Estonia. Banfield moved Landon to its present campus in Bethesda in 1935. The farmhouse, stables, and barn from the previous use of the Bethesda property still stand on the campus and are used today. Greek Doric Order
The Doric order was one of the three orders of ancient Greek and later Roman architecture; the other two canonical orders were the Ionic and the Corinthian. The Doric is most easily recognized by the simple circular capitals at the top of columns. Originating in the western Doric region of Greece, it is the earliest and, in its essence, the simplest of the orders, though still with complex details in the entablature above. The Greek Doric column was fluted or smooth-surfaced, and had no base, dropping straight into the stylobate or platform on which the temple or other building stood.
