Estonian Aviation Academy
Estonian Aviation Academy ( et, Eesti Lennuakadeemia) is a state-owned institution educating and training personnel for Estonian aviation enterprises and organizations. The academy is situated near the Tartu Airport in the village of Reola, 8 km south of Tartu. Instruction at the Estonian Aviation Academy is conducted in accordance with the standard curricula, meeting the requirements of the country's Ministry of Education and Research, as well as international agencies ( ICAO, JAA, EASA and EUROCONTROL). Mission The mission is to educate and train aviation personnel (meeting international requirements), develop national aviation culture, and support the development of activities in the field of aviation. Learning environment The main building, completed in 2011, is situated beside Tartu Airport. Border Guard Flight Squadron (Estonia)
The Police and Border Guard Aviation Group ( et, Politsei- ja piirivalveameti lennusalk) is a mixed helicopter and airplane flight unit formerly operating under the Estonian Border Guard, but now subordinate to the Police and Border Guard Board. The squadron is a rapid response search and rescue unit, which also conducts medical transport and border patrol operations. History The creation of the unit began with the establishment of the Border Guard Flight Department in 1992. The unit was officially established on 8 February 1993, under the name of National Border Guard Squadron and the unit started operating from Tallinn Airport. The Estonian Air Force ( et, Õhuvägi, ) is the aviation branch of the Estonian Defence Forces. The air force traces its history to 1918, and was re-established in its current form in 1991. Estonian Air
Estonian Air was the flag carrier airline of Estonia between 1991 and 2015. Headquartered in Tallinn it operated scheduled services from Tallinn Airport. Prior to its closure, the airline flew from Tallinn to 11 destinations in Europe. From 1991 to 1996 and since 2010 Estonian Air was owned by the Estonian government. In 2010 the Estonian government had purchased the company back from SAS Group to ensure it did not go bankrupt. On 7 November 2015 the European Commission ruled that the government funding given to the company had been in breach of the European Union regulations and must be paid back.
