Estebán Blanco Uhlenhaut (born 16 December 1981) is a Costa Rican former swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. Representing Costa Rica at the 2000 Summer Olympics, he currently holds a national record in the 50 m freestyle that stood for more than a decade. Blanco competed only in the men's 50 m freestyle at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. The LA84 Foundation (known until June 2007 as the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles) is a private, nonprofit institution created by the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee to manage Southern California's endowment from the 1984 Olympic Games. Under an agreement made in 1979, 40 percent of any surplus was to stay in Southern California, with the other 60 percent going to the United States Olympic Committee. Freestyle is a category of swimming competition, defined by the rules of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), in which competitors are subject to a few limited restrictions on their swimming stroke. Freestyle races are the most common of all swimming competitions, with distances beginning with 50 meters (50 yards) and reaching 1500 meters (1650 yards), also known as the mile.
