Estadio Héctor Espino
The Héctor Espino Baseball Stadium (''Estadio de Béisbol Héctor Espino'') is a baseball stadium located in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. The field is located in the north side of the city. It is home to the Naranjeros de Hermosillo (Hermosillo Orange Pickers) of the Mexican Pacific League. In October 1972, the stadium was opened to the public and originally known as was known as "''Coloso del Choyal''" or the Choyal Colossus. When first built, the stadium had a capacity of 10,000. As of 2012 the stadium holds 15,000 spectators. In 1976, the stadium was officially renamed for Héctor Espino, a famous Mexican baseball player. Espino's career spanned 24 seasons, from 1960 to 1984. Hermosillo (), formerly called Pitic (as in ''Santísima Trinidad del Pitic'' and ''Presidio del Pitic''), is a city located in the center of the northwestern Mexican state of Sonora. Naranjeros De Hermosillo
The Naranjeros de Hermosillo ( en, Hermosillo Orange Growers) are a professional baseball team in the Mexican Pacific League based in Hermosillo, Sonora. The Naranjeros are one of the most successful teams in the league with 16 titles and they were the first Mexico team to win the Caribbean Series, doing so in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in 1976. History The team was established in 1945 as Queliteros de Hermosillo ( en, Hermosillo Quelite Growers). In 1947, the Queliteros won their first championship in the Liga de la Costa del Pacífico (Pacific Coast League), the competition that preceded the Mexican Pacific League. Mexican Pacific League
The Mexican Pacific League (), known as Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacífico for sponsorship reasons or simply LMP for its acronym in Spanish, is a professional baseball winter league based in Northern Mexico. The ten-team regular season schedule runs from October to December and is followed by a playoff series in January to determine the league champion. Héctor Espino
Héctor "El Niño" Espino (6 June 1939 – 7 September 1997) was a Mexican professional outfielder, first baseman and manager. He has been called "The Mexican Babe Ruth". Born in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Espino he played from 1960 through 1984 in both the Mexican summer league and the Mexican winter league. After amassing 484 career home runs, he is recognized as the all-time minor-league home run king. 481 of those homers came in Mexico.
