Estadio Francisco De La Hera
Estadio Francisco de la Hera is a football stadium in Almendralejo, Spain. It is the home ground of CD Extremadura 1924. CF Extremadura’s first permanent ground was called Campo de Santa Aurora which was on Camino Alange. This was used from 1928 to 1935 when they moved the short distance to Campo Santa Elvira. In 1950, the idea of building a municipal stadium was formed. They played at a site adjacent to the proposed stadium called Los Cañizos for just over one season played. The inaugural match was on 12 October 1951; CF Extremadura played against Sevilla FC at Estadio Francisco de la Hera. The stadium remained relatively unchanged until its demolition in 1996 to construct a new stadium. The 1996 Estadio Francisco de la Hera has a seating capacity of 11,580. Almendralejo () is a town in the Province of Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain. It is situated 45 km south-east of Badajoz, on the main road and rail route between Mérida and Seville. , it has a population of 33,975. It was the site of a battle and massacre in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War. Historical overview The beautiful large silver Missorium of Theodosius I, one of the best surviving examples of Late Antique Imperial imagery, was found here indicating that an important late ancient Roman site must be in the vicinity. The "Albero de ferria" at Almendralejo, constructed in 1747, was one of the earliest examples of a large scale hydropower dam. It was long and high. It was a rubble-masonry structure and had several buttresses to strengthen it. Some of these were roofed over to house a mill and it was the first dam to contain a water wheel actually within its structure. Club Deportivo Extremadura 1924,(lit: 'Sports Club Extremadura 1924' ), commonly known as CD Extremadura or simply Extremadura, is a Spanish professional football club from the city of Almendralejo, in the autonomous community of Extremadura. The club plays in the amateur Primera Extremeña, the sixth division of football in Spain for football clubs in the region of Extremadura, holding home games at the Estadio Francisco de la Hera. The club was founded in June 2022 as a replacement for the folded Extremadura UD, who disappeared due to serious financial problems, which resulted in them being expelled from the Primera RFEF. Although the club was supposed to take its place in the Segunda Federación, they failed in doing so and like every newly established club in Spain, they began life in the Segunda Extremeña.
