Estadio Cibao
Estadio Cibao is a multi-use stadium in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Currently, it is mostly used for baseball games and hosts the home games of the Águilas Cibaeñas in the Dominican Winter Baseball League. The stadium opened on October 25, 1958 and was constructed by the engineer Bienvenido Martinez Brea. Estadio Cibao seats 18,077 spectators, making it the largest baseball stadium in the Dominican Republic. Its field dimensions are 335 feet at the foul poles, 365 feet to the power alleys, and 385 feet at center field. Estadio Cibao renovation In 2007 President Leonel Fernández initiated a renovation project of the stadium in time to host the 2008 Caribbean Series. The Águilas Cibaeñas (English lit. ''Cibaoan Eagles'') is a professional baseball team in the Dominican Republic's Dominican Professional Baseball League, winter baseball league. Founded on January 28, and based in Santiago de los Caballeros, Santiago, the team has won 6 Caribbean Series and 22 national titles. The team is popular among Dominican baseball fans by the phrase : “La Leña Está Aquí” (The Wood is here), and Águilas Cibaeñas has earned the nickname “Las Cuyayas” (Kestrel, The Kestrels) and “Los Mameyes” (The Mammea americana, Mameyes). Leonel Antonio Fernández Reyna () (born 26 December 1953) is a Dominican Republic, Dominican lawyer, academic, and was the 50th and 52nd President of the Dominican Republic from 1996 to 2000 and from 2004 to 2012. 2008 Caribbean Series
The fiftieth edition of the Caribbean Series (''Serie del Caribe'') was played in . It was held from February 2 through February 7, featuring the champions teams from Mexico, Yaquis de Obregón; Venezuela, Tigres de Aragua, and two teams from Dominican Republic: Águilas Cibaeñas and Tigres del Licey The format consisted of 12 games, each team facing the other teams twice, and was played at Estadio Cibao, home of the Águilas. Licey finished second in the Dominican League, but made the Series due to the cancellation of the Puerto Rican League season due to financial problems. Quisqueya Stadium Juan Marichal is a baseball stadium in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It is often used as a multi-use stadium. Football club Atlético Pantoja used the venue for their inaugural Caribbean football championship match. The Quisqueya holds about 14,469 people after its renovation. The Dominican League of Baseball Authority is in charge of its management. It is the only stadium in the Caribbean region to host two different baseball teams, Tigres del Licey (''Licey Tigers'') and Leones del Escogido (''Chosen One Lions'').
