Essex—Kent
Essex—Kent was a federal electoral district in Ontario that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1979 to 1997. It was created in 1976 from parts of Essex—Windsor, Kent—Essex and Lambton—Kent ridings, and initially consisted of the Townships of Colchester South, Gosfield North, Gosfield South, Mersea and Pelee, in the County of Essex, but excluding the Town of Essex, and Townships of Harwich, Raleigh, Romney and Tilbury East, including the Town of Tilbury, in the County of Kent. In 1987, Essex—Kent was re-defined to consist of the towns of Harrow, Kingsville and Leamington and the townships of Colchester North, Colchester South, Gosfield North, Gosfield South, Mersea and Pelee in the County of Essex, and the towns of Blenheim and Tilbury and the villages of Erieau, Erie Beach and Wheatley in the County of Kent. James Eber "Jim" Caldwell (born July 20, 1943) was a Progressive Conservative party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was a broadcaster by career and host of the locally broadcast "Agriscope". Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Caldwell was first elected in the Essex—Kent electoral district in the 1984 federal election. Kent—Essex was a federal electoral district (riding) in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 to 1979. It was created in the redistribution of 1966 from parts of Essex South and Kent ridings. It consisted of Point Pelee National Park and the Townships of Gosfield South, Mersea, Pelee and Gosfield North, excepting the Town of Essex in the County of Essex; and the City of Chatham, the Town of Tilbury and the Townships of Raleigh, Romney and Tilbury East in the County of Kent. Lambton—Kent was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1935 to 1979. This riding was created in 1933 from parts of Kent, Lambton East and Lambton West ridings. It was initially defined as consisting of: * the part of the county of Lambton contained in the townships of Brooke, Dawn, Enniskillen, Euphemia, Sombra, and Warwick, including the town of Forest, Walpole Island, St. Ann Island and the other islands at the mouth of the St. Clair River; and * the part of the county of Kent contained in the townships of the Gore of Chatham, Gore of Camden, Camden and Zone. Chatham-Kent—Essex (formerly known as Kent—Essex) was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1997 to 2015. Federal riding The federal riding was created in 1996 as "Kent—Essex" from Essex—Kent and Kent ridings. Its name was changed to the present name in 1998. Essex (formerly known as Essex—Windsor) is a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1882 and since 1968. Geography The riding includes the Municipalities of LaSalle, Amherstburg, Essex, Kingsville, and the western/central portion of Lakeshore. See Elections Canada map. History Essex was created in the British North America Act 1867. It consisted of Essex County. It was abolished in 1882 when it was redistributed into Essex North and Essex South ridings. Jerry Pickard
Reginald "Jerry" Pickard (November 14, 1940 – July 27, 2021) was a Canadian politician who served as a member of the House of Commons of Canada from 1988 until his retirement in 2005, representing the riding of Chatham-Kent—Essex for the Liberal Party in his later terms in office. Biography Pickard had Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees from the University of Windsor, and worked as a teacher in the Kent County and Essex County boards of education following his graduation. He was elected to the Kingsville municipal council in 1974 and remained in municipal politics for the next fourteen years, including tenures as deputy reeve and mayor (1984–1988). He was first elected to parliament in the federal election of 1988, defeating Progressive Conservative incumbent Jim Caldwell by about 6,500 votes in the riding of Essex—Kent.
