Eskendereya (foaled, 2007 in Kentucky) is a retired American Thoroughbred Horse racing, racehorse and current sire. Background Eskendereya was sired by Giant's Causeway (horse), Giant's Causeway, a son of North America's one time leading sire Storm Cat. Bred in Kentucky by Sanford Robertson, Eskendereya was a $250,000 Keeneland September purchase. His dam is Aldebaran Light, who is a daughter of champion Seattle Slew. Aldebaran Light is also the dam of Group I winner Balmont (horse), Balmont. Eskendereya is owned by Zayat Stables, and was trained by Todd Pletcher. Racing career Eskendereya made his career debut on turf at Saratoga, rallying from off the pace to finish second. He followed that with a victory in the Pilgrim Stakes. Ahmed Zayat (; ar, أحمد الزيات), (born August 31, 1962) is an Egyptian American businessman and owner of Thoroughbred race horses. He is the CEO of Zayat Stables, LLC, a Thoroughbred horse racing business which bred and owns the 2015 Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing (United States), Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. Joe Drape of ''The New York Times'' described Zayat as "controversial" and "one of the most successful and flamboyant owners in thoroughbred racing." Mitole (foaled March 23, 2015) is a retired American Thoroughbred racehorse who was foaled and raised at Hermitage Farm in Oldham County, Kentucky. He was named the American Champion Male Sprint Horse of 2019 after winning six of seven starts that year including the Churchill Downs Stakes, Metropolitan Handicap, Forego Stakes, and Breeders' Cup Sprint. Background Mitole is a bay horse who was bred in Kentucky by Hermitage Farm’s long-time client Edward A. Cox, Jr. His sire Eskendereya won the Wood Memorial Stakes and was a favorite for the 2010 Kentucky Derby before being scratched due to injury. Wood Memorial Stakes
The Wood Memorial Stakes is an American flat Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds held annually in April at Aqueduct Racetrack in Ozone Park, Queens, New York. It is run over a distance of 1 1/8 miles (9 furlongs) on dirt. The Wood Memorial has been run as a Grade II event since 2017. It was a Grade I race from 1974 (when grading was first introduced) to 1994 and again from 2002 to 2016. The Wood Memorial is one of the major prep races on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. Between 1930 and 2000, eleven winners of the Wood Memorial went on to win the Kentucky Derby (Gallant Fox, Twenty Grand, Johnstown, Count Fleet, Hoop Jr., Assault, Foolish Pleasure, Bold Forbes, Seattle Slew, Pleasant Colony and Fusaichi Pegasus). Giant's Causeway (horse)
Giant's Causeway (14 February 1997 – 16 April 2018) was an American-bred, Irish-trained Thoroughbred racehorse who won five Group One races in Britain and Ireland as a three-year-old in 2000: the St James's Palace Stakes, Eclipse Stakes, Sussex Stakes, Juddmonte International Stakes and Irish Champion Stakes. He was named the 2000 Cartier Horse of the Year. The horse was sent to stud and proved to be an outstanding sire. Nicknamed the "Iron Horse" on account of his toughness and constitution, Giant's Causeway was hailed by his trainer Aidan O'Brien as a "true champion". Shizunai Stallion Station
Shizunai Stallion Station is a Japanese Thoroughbred horse farm was opened in 1963 and is located on the island of Hokkaidō. Operated by the Japan Bloodhorse Breeders' Association (JBBA), it is located in Shizunai whose sister city is Lexington, Kentucky. Shizunai Stallion Station stables 15 stallions and plays a central role in the stallion operations of JBBA. Todd Pletcher
Todd Pletcher (born June 26, 1967 in Dallas, Texas) is an American thoroughbred horse trainer. He won the Eclipse Award seven times as Trainer of the Year, four of these in consecutive years. His horses Super Saver (2010) and Always Dreaming (2017) won the Kentucky Derby. He also won the Belmont Stakes with Rags to Riches (2007), Palace Malice (2013) and Tapwrit (2017). He also trained Malathaat who won the 2021 Kentucky Oaks. Career Pletcher began working for his father, Jake, as a hot walker at the age of seven. During his summers off from junior and senior high school, he went to California, where he worked as a hot walker for Henry Moreno at Hollywood Park and Del Mar Racetracks. Buddy's Saint (February 23, 2007 – November 14, 2010) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse. Background Sired by Saint Liam, a Breeders' Cup Classic winner who also won the Eclipse Award as the 2005 Horse of the Year, he is out of the mare Tuzia by Blushing John. He was sold in the 2008 Keeneland September yearling sale for $100,000. Pilgrim Stakes
The Pilgrim Stakes is a Grade II American Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-olds over a distance of miles on the turf track scheduled annually in late September at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The event currently offers a purse of $200,000. History The event was inaugurated on 29 October 1979 at Aqueduct Racetrack and was run over the mile distance in split divisions as the sixth and eighth race on the card that day. The race is named for Joseph E. Widener's horse, Pilgrim, winner of the 1919 Remsen Stakes. In 1982 the event was classified as Grade III, upgraded to Grade II in 1988 for two runnings before being downgraded to Grade III. From 2001–2007 the race was not graded as in 2009 when the event was moved off the turf track due to the inclement weather and held over a shorter one mile distance. Mariah's Storm (born April 1, 1991, in Kentucky) is an American thoroughbred racehorse, bred by Donald T. Johnson's Crescent Farm in Lexington, Kentucky. She suffered a serious injury while racing but later made a full recovery and continued her career. The Endeavour Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for fillies and mares that are four years old or older, over a distance of miles on turf, held annually in February at Tampa Bay Downs racetrack in Oldsmar, Florida. History The event was inaugurated on 4 January 2000 at a distance of about miles and was won by Office Miss by the shortest of margins, a nose over Seducer in a time of 1:48.93. The Eatontown Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for fillies and mares, three years old and older over a distance of miles on the turf course scheduled annually in June at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport, New Jersey and currently offers a purse of $150,000 plus a trophy. History The event is named after Eatontown, New Jersey, a Borough near the Monmouth Park track. The inaugural running of the event was on 9 August 1971, on the closing day of the 1971 Monmouth Park summer meeting as the Eatontown Handicap and was won by the 35-1 longshot in the field, a six-year-old Chilean mare Flor De Sombra in a time of 1:46.
