Eskadrille 724
Eskadrille 724 is a Royal Danish Air Force helicopter squadron, housed at Karup Air Base in central Jutland. It was official erected on 7 August 2003, when the Danish army's Royal Danish Army Air Corps (HFT) was disbanded and transformed into Eskadrille 724. The name "''Hærens Flyvetjeneste''" was used onto August 2005. The squadron consist of 12 AS 550 Fennec. In the Danish Defence agreement 2005-09, Eskadrille 724 is to be disbanded; the Fennec helicopter loses its anti-tank capability and will likely be used in a light transport- and observation unit. Until 12 September 2005 the squadron also operated 10 H-500 Cayuse helicopters. Previous Eskadrille 724 A previous Eskadrille 724 did exist in the Danish air force. Eurocopter Fennec
The Eurocopter (now Airbus Helicopters) AS550 Fennec (now H125M) and AS555 Fennec 2 are lightweight, multipurpose military helicopters manufactured by Eurocopter Group (now Airbus Helicopters). The Hawker Hunter is a transonic British jet-powered fighter aircraft that was developed by Hawker Aircraft for the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the late 1940s and early 1950s. It was designed to take advantage of the newly developed Rolls-Royce Avon turbojet engine and the swept wing, and was the first jet-powered aircraft produced by Hawker to be procured by the RAF. Gloster Meteor
The Gloster Meteor was the first British jet fighter and the Allies of World War II, Allies' only jet aircraft to engage in combat operations during the Second World War. The Meteor's development was heavily reliant on its ground-breaking turbojet engines, pioneered by Frank Whittle and his company, Power Jets, Power Jets Ltd. Development of the aircraft began in 1940, although work on the engines had been under way since 1936. The Hughes OH-6 Cayuse is a single-engine light helicopter that was designed and produced by the American aerospace company Hughes Helicopters. Its formal name is derived from the Cayuse people while its "Loach" nickname comes from the acronym for the Light Observation Helicopter (LOH) programme that it was procured under. The OH-6 was developed in response to the United States Army issuing Technical Specification 153 in 1960 to replace its Bell H-13 Sioux fleet. The ''Model 369'' was submitted by Hughes, and competed against the two finalists, Fairchild-Hiller and Bell, for a production contract. Karup Air Base
Air Base Karup is the main air base of the Royal Danish Air Force. It is situated within Midtjyllands Airport, 3 km west of Karup in mid-Jutland. The air base covers 3000 hectares of land of which only a third is inside the operational area marked by a 17 km long fence. History The air base was constructed by the Luftwaffe during the German Occupation in 1940 under the name "Einsatzhafen Grove" (later ''Flieger-Horst Grove'') to facilitate offensive operations against England. Later in the war, it became a base for defensive fighter planes.
