Alejandro Escovedo
Alejandro Escovedo (born January 10, 1951) is an American rock musician, songwriter, and singer, who has been recording and touring since the late 1970s. His primary instrument is the guitar. He has played in various rock genres, including punk rock, roots rock and alternative country, and is most closely associated with the music scene in Austin, Texas but also San Francisco and New York. He comes from a family of musicians. Biography The son of a Mexican immigrant to Texas and a Texas native, Escovedo is from a family that includes several professional musicians, including his brothers (and percussionists) Coke Escovedo and Pete Escovedo, and Sheila E. (Pete's daughter and Alejandro's niece). Alejandro's brother Mario fronted the hard rock band the Dragons, and another brother, Javier, was in the punk rock band the Zeros. Coke Escovedo
Joseph Thomas "Coke" Escovedo (April 30, 1941 – July 13, 1986) was an American percussionist, who came from a prominent musical family including five musician brothers and his niece, Sheila E. He played in various genres, including R&B, jazz fusion and soul, with bands including Santana, Malo, Cal Tjader, and Azteca. Early life Escovedo was born in Los Angeles, California, the son of Pedro Escovedo, a plumber and amateur musician, who had immigrated from Mexico at age 12, and Anita (). Escovedo grew up in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. He developed an early interest in jazz and Latin music through exposure gained from his father Pedro, an aspiring big band singer, and eventually gravitated to drums and Latin percussion. Juan de Escobedo (1530 in Colindres, CantabriaMarch 31, 1578 in Madrid), Spanish politician, secretary of John of Austria (''Don Juan de Austria''), and chiefly notable as having been the victim of one of the mysteries of the 16th century, began life in the household of Ruy Gómez de Silva, prince of Eboli, the most trusted minister of the early years of the reign of Philip II. By the will of the prince he was endowed for life with the post of Regidor, or legal representative of the king in the municipality of Madrid. He was also associated with Antonio Pérez as one of the secretaries who acted as the agents of the king in all dealings with the various governing boards which formed the Spanish administration. Pete Escovedo
Peter Michael Escovedo (born July 13, 1935 in Pittsburg, California) is an American percussionist.[ "Pete Escovedo Biography & Awards"] With his two brothers, Pete formed Escovedo Bros Latin Jazz Sextet, before Carlos Santana hired Pete and Coke Escovedo for his Santana (band), group. He led the 14–24 piece Latin big band Azteca (band), Azteca. His daughter is singer-percussionist Sheila E. They were both presented with the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021.
