Eschenberg Observatory
Eschenberg Observatory (german: Sternwarte Eschenberg) is an astronomical observatory owned and operated by the ''Astronomical Society of Winterthur''. It is located in northeastern Switzerland in Winterthur and was founded in 1979. The outer main-belt asteroid 96206 Eschenberg, discovered by Freimut Börngen at the Karl Schwarzschild Observatory in 1992, was named for the observatory. The official naming citation was published by the Minor Planet Center on 9 June 2017 (). The asteroid belt is a torus-shaped region in the Solar System, located roughly between the orbits of the planets Jupiter and Mars. It contains a great many solid, irregularly shaped bodies, of many sizes, but much smaller than planets, called asteroids or minor planets. This asteroid belt is also called the main asteroid belt or main belt to distinguish it from other asteroid populations in the Solar System such as near-Earth asteroids and trojan asteroids. The asteroid belt is the smallest and innermost known circumstellar disc in the Solar System. About 60% of its mass is contained in the four largest asteroids: Ceres, Vesta, Pallas, and Hygiea.
