Errol Parish Church
Errol Parish Church is a listed church in the Scottish village of Errol, Perth and Kinross. It has the informal names of North Church and the Cathedral of the Carse. History The Parish of Errol has some of the oldest records in Scotland. A church in the locality is recorded in the early 13th Century. Little is known of the characteristics of the Medieval building. It was demolished and rebuilt in 1765, although a sketch produced during its early life shows a large traceried window built into a small annex on one of its walls, suggesting the reuse of at least some of the old materials. In the early 19th Century, it was decided that the church again needed to be rebuilt. A site was donated in 1830 by John Lee Allen of Errol Park. The donated ground was 120 metres to the NNE of the former location. The Church of Scotland ( sco, The Kirk o Scotland; gd, Eaglais na h-Alba) is the national church in Scotland. Errol, Perth And Kinross
Errol is a village in Perth and Kinross, Scotland about halfway between Dundee and Perth. It is one of the principal settlements of the Carse of Gowrie. It lies just north of the River Tay. The 2016 population of Errol was estimated to be 1,500 persons, compared to 1,070 in the 2001 Census. Errol village is in the Carse and Gowrie electoral ward of the Perthshire North Scottish parliamentary constituency and in the Tayside Health Board area. Errol is twinned with Mardié, a village on the Loire near Orléans in France. Errol is surrounded by agricultural flat fields and has a prominent attractive location above the Firth of Tay within this setting. Errol is known for its reeds, which used to be collected up to a few years ago to make thatched roofs. These reeds grow in the banks of the River Tay and act as home to a fairly uncommon bird called the bearded tit. James Gillespie Graham
James Gillespie Graham (11 June 1776 – 11 March 1855) was a Scottish architect, prominent in the early 19th century. Life Graham was born in Dunblane on 11 June 1776. He was the son of Malcolm Gillespie, a solicitor. He was christened as James Gillespie. In 1810, under the name James Gillespie, he was living in a flat at 10 Union Street at the head of Leith Walk in Edinburgh. By 1820 he had moved to a far more luxurious house at 34 Albany Street, not far from his earlier flat. He is most notable for his work in the Scottish baronial style, as at Ayton Castle, and he also worked in the Gothic Revival style, in which he was heavily influenced by the work of Augustus Pugin. However, he also worked successfully in the neoclassical style as exemplified in his design of Blythswood House at Renfrew seven miles down the River Clyde from Glasgow.
