Ernst Wasmuth Verlag
Ernst Wasmuth Verlag GmbH & Co. is a publisher based in Tübingen, in southern Germany. The themes of architecture, archaeology, art and design are the key topics of the publishing house, which was established in Berlin in 1872. History On May 1, 1872 in Berlin, Ernst Wasmuth (1845-1897) opened a bookstore devoted to architecture, which he soon expanded into publishing. Some of the books he published became classics, including works by Hermann Muthesius and Frank Lloyd Wright. Early in the company history, Wasmuth began to publish two magazines, ''Der Städtebau'' (Urban development) and ''Architektur des XX. Jahrhunderts'' (Architecture of the 20th Century). In 1875, Ernst Wasmuth's younger brother, Emil, entered the business. He died in 1894. In 1905 the company began to publish Georg Dehio's ''Handbook of German Art History'' (Der Dehio), which was issued annually to 1928. Herbert Ricke
Herbert Rüdiger Ricke (27 September 1901 – 22 March 1976), was a German archaeologist, Egyptologist and architectural historian who is best known for his works on ancient Egyptian architecture. Biography H. Ricke studied architecture from 1920 to 1925 at Leibniz University Hannover where he was influenced by the Bauhaus. After obtaining his Diplom in 1925, he worked in Egypt from 1926 to 1928 under the direction of Ludwig Borchardt on the publication of excavations undertaken at Tel al-Amarna by the Deutsche Orient-Gesellschaft (German oriental society), which had been interrupted by the first world war. Thanks to his work ''Der Grundriss des Amarna-Wohnhauses'' (The plan of dwellings at Amarna), he received his doctorate under the supervision of Uvo Hölscher at Leibniz University Hannover. Martin Hürlimann
Martin Hürlimann (12 November 1897 in Zürich – 4 March 1984 in Zürich) was a Swiss publisher, better known in the English-speaking world as a photographer. Following successful completion, at Frauenfeld, of his school career, Hürlimann went on to study History, German literature and Philosophy at Zürich, Leipzig and Berlin universities. His doctoral thesis, submitted and accepted in 1924, was entitled ''Die Aufklärung in Zürich. Die Entwicklung des Zürcher Protestantismus im 18. Jahrhundert.'' In 1929, Hürlimann founded the newspaper "Atlantis", based in Berlin and specialising in international travel and related themes. Wilhelm Von Bode
Wilhelm von Bode (10 December 1845 – 1 March 1929) was a German art historian and museum curator. Born Arnold Wilhelm Bode in Calvörde, he was ennobled in 1913. He was the creator and first curator of the Kaiser Friedrich Museum, now called the Bode Museum in his honor, in 1904. Career Bode studied law at the Universities of Göttingen and Berlin, but took an interest in art during his university years. While practicing law in Braunschweig he systematically rearranged the ducal art collections, and visited a number of museums and private collections in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy.
