Ernest William Taylor (10 June 1898 – 23 November 1980) was an Australian rules footballer who played in the VFL between 1920 and 1926 for the Richmond Football Club. Family The son of the former Richmond (VFA) captain, Charles Henry Taylor (1872-1951), and Annie Ethel Maud Taylor (1877–1938), née Mitchell, Ernest William Taylor was born at Richmond, Victoria on 10 June 1898. He married Amelia Jane Comans (1896-1927) in 1920. He married his second wife, Mary Evelyn "Mae" Grace (1908-1991), in 1932. Football A back-pocket and half-back flanker, he was recruited from the Burnley Football Club, and made his senior debut with Richmond against South Melbourne, at the Lake Oval, on 14 August 1920. In his fifth First XVIII match he played in the back pocket for Richmond in its 1920 Grand Final win over Collingwood, 7.10 (52) to 5.5 (35). Ernest Taylor (2 September 1925 – 9 April 1985) was an English footballer who played for four clubs in a 19-year professional career. After Blackpool's defeat by Newcastle United in the 1951 FA Cup Final, it is said that Stanley Matthews told his manager, Joe Smith, that he would like the Magpies' inside-right in the Blackpool team.Calley, Roy (1992). Born in Sunderland, County Durham, in 1925, Taylor was a naval submariner when he joined Newcastle in 1942. Ernest James Taylor (4 July 1871 – 13 November 1944) was an English amateur footballer who played for Southampton in the club's first two years in the Southern League. Football career Taylor was born in Liverpool, where he played his early club football while employed as a cashier with the American Shipping Company. While working in Liverpool, he was on the books of Everton, but failed to make any first-team appearances. In 1893, he was transferred to the shipping company's offices in Southampton. He joined the Southampton St. Mary's club soon after his arrival in the town. On 26 April 1893, he was part of the St. Mary's team who played a friendly against Stoke of the Football League at the County Ground. Vice-Admiral Sir Ernest Augustus Taylor, KCMG, CVO (17 April 1876 – 11 March 1971) was a British Royal Navy officer and politician. In 1898 he married Rose Campbell. Naval career Taylor entered HMS Britannia in 1890 and went to sea two years later. In early May 1902, he was appointed gunnery lieutenant on the pre-dreadnought battleship HMS ''Renown'', serving in the Mediterranean Squadron, and late the same year he was transferred to the armoured cruiser HMS ''Bacchante'' on her first commission in the same squadron. He was assistant to the Director of Naval Ordnance from October 1911 to June 1912.
