Ernie Gilroy
Ernie Gilroy (born 1948) is an administrator and politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was a member of the Winnipeg City Council from 1986 to 1992, and was a member of the city's executive policy committee (i.e. the municipal cabinet) during Bill Norrie's administration. Gilroy is also a senior organizer with the Manitoba Liberal Party, and ran under the party's banner in the 1990 provincial election. Since 2004, he has been the leader of the Manitoba Floodway Authority. Early life and career Gilroy was born on 6 October 1948. He holds a certificate in management and administration from the Canadian Institute of Management through the University of Manitoba. He is an insurance salesman in private life, and was a board member of the Insurance Brokers Association of Manitoba in 1997–98 and 1999–2000. 1988 Manitoba General Election
The 1988 Manitoba general election was held on April 26, 1988 to elect Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Manitoba, Canada. It resulted in a minority government. The Progressive Conservative Party won 25 seats, against 20 for the Liberal Party and 12 for the New Democratic Party. The 1986 Manitoba general election was held on March 18, 1986 to elect Members of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, Legislative Assembly of the Province of Manitoba, Canada. Saint Boniface—Saint Vital
Saint Boniface—Saint Vital (french: Saint-Boniface—Saint-Vital; formerly Saint Boniface) is a federal electoral district in Winnipeg, Manitoba that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1925. The district covers roughly the southern portion of the city of Winnipeg, east of the Red River. In particular, it contains the Franco-Manitoban community of Saint Boniface and roughly the northern two-thirds of the community of St. Vital. The riding (as federal electoral districts are called in Canada) has a sizeable French population (16% according to the last census) and was a Liberal Party stronghold for most of its history. Glen Murray (politician)
Glen Ronald Murray (born October 26, 1957) is a Canadian politician and urban issues advocate who served as the 41st Mayor of Winnipeg, Manitoba from 1998 to 2004, and was the first openly gay mayor of a large North American city. He subsequently moved to Toronto, Ontario, and was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Liberal Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Toronto Centre in 2010, serving until 2017. In August 2010, he was appointed to the provincial cabinet as Minister of Research and Innovation. Terry Duguid (born 1954 or 1955) is a Canadian politician who has served as the member of Parliament (MP) for Winnipeg South since 2015. He has campaigned for elected office at the municipal, provincial and federal levels, and served as a city councillor in Winnipeg from 1989 to 1995. Susan Thompson
Susan Ann Thompson was the 40th mayor of Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was born on 12 April 1947. She was the first woman to serve as mayor of Winnipeg, serving two terms from 1992 to 1998. Thompson graduated with a BA from the University of Winnipeg in 1971. Thompson worked at Eaton's and Hudson's Bay Company in Winnipeg, Calgary, and Montreal. Because of her father's decline in health, she came back to Winnipeg in 1980 and bought the family's business Birt Saddlery. While running Birt Saddlery, she worked hard to promote women in business and became involved in Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce.
