Ernest Ramme
Ernest Lester Ramme (31 August 1916 – 21 April 2004) was a United States Army and United States Air Force officer with a career spanning thirty years. Family and ancestry Ramme was born to Otto and Cora Corrigan Ramme in Streator, Illinois. His father was a farmer, living his whole live on the family homestead in Livingston County, Illinois. The homestead was settled by his grandfather, Ernest August Ramme, who came from Germany in 1867. His mother was a local girl. They were Catholic. He married Ann Marie Zapponi 22 November 1944 in Comanche County, Oklahoma. They had four daughters. Education In 1935, at the age of 18, Ramme graduated from the Streator High School. He enrolled in the agriculture school at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois, in 1936. During college, he joined the Illinois National Guard while also studying in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program. Streator, Illinois
Streator is a city in LaSalle and Livingston counties in the U.S. state of Illinois. The city is situated on the Vermilion River approximately southwest of Chicago in the prairie and farm land of north-central Illinois. As of the 2020 census, the population of Streator was 12,500. Sheridan Reserve Center
The Philip H. Sheridan Reserve Center is the former Fort Sheridan now in Lake Forest, Highwood, and Highland Park in Lake County, Illinois, United States. It was originally established as a United States Army Post named after Civil War Cavalry General Philip Sheridan, to honor his services to Chicago. When the main fort was officially closed by the Army on May 3, 1993, the majority of the property was sold by the Department of Defense to commercial land developers. Most of the original housing structures were then refurbished and resold as a residential community. Other buildings were given to cultural organizations like Midwest Young Artists, the largest youth music program in the Midwest.
