Ernest Perry (footballer)
Ernest William Perry (3 November 1891 – 31 May 1979) was an English association football, footballer who played in the English Football League, Football League for Port Vale F.C., Port Vale and Crewe Alexandra F.C., Crewe Alexandra between 1919 and 1924; he was also signed to Stoke City F.C., Stoke and Bradford City A.F.C., Bradford City. Career Perry played for Stoke City F.C., Stoke before joining Port Vale F.C., Port Vale in August 1919, just before they joined the English Football League, Football League to take over the fixtures of financially troubled Leeds City F.C., Leeds City, who were expelled from the Football League Second Division, Second Division two months into the season. He played 26 Second Division games in the 1919–20 Port Vale F.C. season, 1919–20 season, and scored his first goal in the Football League on 1 January, in a 4–3 defeat to Fulham F.C., Fulham at The Old Recreation Ground. Wednesbury
Wednesbury () is a market town in Sandwell in the county of West Midlands, England. It is located near the source of the River Tame. Historically part of Staffordshire in the Hundred of Offlow, at the 2011 Census the town had a population of 37,817. History Medieval and earlier The substantial remains of a large ditch excavated in St Mary's Road in 2008, following the contours of the hill and predating the Early Medieval period, has been interpreted as part of a hilltop enclosure and possibly the Iron Age hillfort long suspected on the site. The first authenticated spelling of the name was Wodensbyri, written in an endorsement on the back of the copy of the will of Wulfric Spot, dated 1004. Wednesbury ("Woden's borough") is one of the few places in England to be named after a pre-Christian deity. Gresty Road or the Alexandra Stadium, currently known as the Mornflake Stadium for sponsorship reasons, is a football stadium in Crewe, Cheshire, England. The home ground of Crewe Alexandra, it has an all-seated capacity of 10,153.
