Ernest Hall (judge)
Ernest Hall (October 24, 1844 – June 13, 1920) was an English-born American lawyer and judge from New York. Life Hall was born on October 24, 1844 in London, England, the son of Henry Bryan Hall and Mary Ann Denison. His father was a well-known steel engraver. The Hall family immigrated to America in 1850. Hall lived in Morrisania. He attended public school from 1851 to 1858, when he graduated. He then worked in the publishing house Putnams until 1860. In the fall of that year, he began studying law in the office of Henry Spratley of Morrisania. He studied there until 1861, when he began studying in the office of Carpentier & Beach in New York City. He stayed in the latter office until May 1864. In 1863, in the middle of the American Civil War, he joined the 71st New York Infantry Regiment during the Gettysburg campaign and returned home at the end of the New York City draft riots. Ernest Hall (cricketer)
Ernest Hall (29 April 1851 – 3 March 1936) was an English first-class cricketer and surveyor The son of the painter Harry Hall, he was born at Newmarket in April 1851. He was educated at Felsted School, where he played for the cricket eleven. He later made his debut in first-class cricket for Hampshire against the Marylebone Cricket Club at Lord's in 1880. He played first-class cricket for Hampshire until 1886, making eleven appearances. Playing as a wicket-keeper, he took 11 catches and made three stumpings. As a batsman, he scored 198 runs at an average of 10.42, with a highest score of 22. Hampshire lost their first-class status following the 1885 season, with Hall continuing to play second-class matches for the county. Outside of cricket, he was a Chartered Surveyor and a fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, as well as being a well-known auctioneer and estate agent in the Portsmouth area. Sir Ernest Hall (born 19 March 1930) is an English businessman, known for his restoration of Dean Clough Mills, Halifax; pianist, and composer. Early life and education Hall was born in Bolton, Lancashire in 1930. He was educated at Bolton College Grammar School and the Royal College of Music. Career Hall made his first fortune in textiles. He then sold real estate through the Mountleigh Group. In 1983, Hall sold his company for £40 million and then invested £20 million in the Dean Clough former carpet factory site. In 1983, he led a consortium which purchased a disused carpet mill complex, Dean Clough Mills, and converted it into an arts, business, design and education complex. While in his 70s, he recorded the complete piano works of Frédéric Chopin. Ernest Hall (6 August 1916 – 7 July 1944) was a footballer who played in the Football League for Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United. Personal life Hall served as a pilot officer in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War, being promoted to that rank from sergeant on 28 February 1944. Ernest Hall (British Columbia Politician)
Ernest "Ernie" Hall (16 September 1929 – 25 January 1987) was an English-born merchant and political figure in British Columbia. He represented Surrey in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1966 to 1975 and from 1979 to 1983 as a New Democratic Party (NDP) member. He was born in Manchester and worked briefly as a teacher before joining the British Army. Hall came to Canada in 1957 and worked as a textile wholesaler. He later worked for the Hudson's Bay Company wholesale division. In 1963, he was named provincial secretary for the NDP in British Columbia. He lived in Surrey. Hall was defeated when he ran for reelection to the provincial assembly in 1975, when he lost to Bill Vander Zalm, and in 1983. He served in the provincial cabinet as Provincial Secretary. Ernest Hall (Arizona Politician)
Ernest R. Hall (1880-1959) was an Arizona politician who served a single term in the Arizona State Senate during the 3rd Arizona State Legislature. He ran several other times for the state legislature, mostly for the State Senate, but once for the State House of Representatives. He also ran three times for Arizona Secretary of State, winning in the 1920 election. Other offices he held were justice of the peace and postmaster, both in the Salome, Arizona area. He was a combat veteran of World War I, and was a very successful farmer in Maricopa County for several decades. Early life Hall was born on February 10, 1880, in Creston, Iowa. Ernest Lenard (Ernie) Hall, PhD, PE, is Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science in the School of Dynamic Systems in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Cincinnati. He was also the Paul E. Geier Professor of Robotics in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. Ernest Thomas Hall was a senior Australian public servant. He was Controller-General of the Department of Trade and Customs between 1927 and 1933. Life and career Hall entered the Victorian Customs department in 1888. He was private secretary to several State Ministers. He was licensed under Victorian law as a shorthand writer in 1890. At federation, Hall transferred to the federal Department of Trade and Customs. In 1916, Hall traveled to the United States, tasked with opening the Australian Customs Office in New York City and making extensive war supply purchases.
