Ernest Gerard Wright
Ernest Gerard "Ernie" Wright, (10 July 1901 – 16 January 1981) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council for the Australian Labor Party (New South Wales Branch) for 29 years from 1943 to 1973 and also served as Chairman of Committees from 1953 to 1967. Municipality Of Newtown
The Municipality of Newtown was a local government area of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The municipality was proclaimed as a borough in 1862 and, with an area of 1.9 square kilometres, was centred on the suburb of Newtown, including parts of Erskineville and Enmore. The municipality was divided into four wards: Kingston, Enmore, O'Connell and Camden. In 1949 under the ''Local Government (Areas) Act 1948'', Newtown Municipal Council was merged with the larger neighbouring City of Sydney which was located immediately to the North, although parts were subsequently, from 1968, moved into Marrickville Council. Mayors included Lilian Fowler (1938–1939), the first female mayor in Australia. Charles Wilson Anderson
Charles Wilson Anderson (16 February 1918 – 15 August 2009) was an Australian politician. He was born in Burwood to labourer Mervyn Wilson and Alicia Mabel McDonald. After attending Granville Technical College he became a plumber. On 2 August 1941 he married Vera Josephine Delaney, with whom he had six children. He served as assistant secretary of the Plumbers and Gas Fitters' Union from 1943 to 1949 and as president of the Trades and Labor Council from 1947 to 1949. He was on the Australian Labor Party central executive from 1946 to 1950 (vice-president from 1947 to 1950), and was assistant secretary of the New South Wales branch of the party from 1947 to 1949. John Stewart (New South Wales Labor Politician)
John Stewart (1876 – 8 April 1957) was an Australian politician. Born in Campbeltown, Argyllshire, Scotland to farmer John Stewart and Barbara Thomson, he arrived in Australia in 1912, taking up work as an electrician. He married Blanche Ogillvie Macfarlane, with whom he had four sons. He became an organiser with the Electrical Trades Union (ETU) in 1931 and was also a member of the Labor Party's Socialisation Committee from 1931 to 1933. He was secretary of the ETU from 1939 to 1941 and secretary of the New South Wales Labor Party from 1941 to 1950. He was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Council in 1941. The President of the New South Wales Legislative Council is the presiding officer of the upper house of the Parliament of New South Wales, the Legislative Council. The presiding officer of the lower house is the speaker of the Legislative Assembly. The role of President has generally been a partisan office, filled by the governing party of the time.
