Ernest De Soto
Ernest Frank de Soto (October 26, 1923 – December 29, 2014) was an American master printmaker and lithographer, who specialized in American and Mexican prints during his career. He established and directed his own printing workshop, the de Soto Workshop, from 1975 to 1993. De Soto was the first Hispanic Master Printer in the United States. De Soto was the first American print maker to establish an international relationship with Mexican artists and had a lasting impact on printing in the United States. Early life Ernest de Soto was born on October 26, 1923, in Tucson, Arizona. De Soto was an eighth generation Tucsonian and a member of the group “Los Descendientes del Presidio de Tucson.” In an interview, de Soto discussed his passion for art from a young age, and recalled the encouragement of his parents and teachers. Francisco Zúñiga
José Jesús Francisco Zúñiga Chavarría (December 27, 1912 – August 9, 1998) was a Costa Rican-born Mexican artist, known both for his painting and his sculpture. Journalist Fernando González Gortázar lists Zúñiga as one of the 100 most notable Mexicans of the 20th century, while the ''Encyclopædia Britannica'' calls him "perhaps the best sculptor" of the Mexican political modern style. Biography Zúñiga was born in Guadalupe, Barrio de San José, Costa Rica on December 27, 1912, to Manuel Maria Zúñiga and María Chavarría, both sculptors. His father worked as a sculptor of religious figures, and in stone work. His artistic inclinations began early and by the age of twelve had already read books on the history of art, artistic anatomy and the life of various Renaissance painters. Byron Galvez
Byron Gálvez (October 28, 1941 – October 27, 2009) was a List of Mexican artists, Mexican artist who was primarily known for his painting but also created sculpture, including monumental works. He was born in rural Hidalgo (state), Hidalgo state, to a father who played jazz music and read literature, a rarity in 1930s rural Mexico. However, it exposed Gálvez to culture, even though this led to an interest in visual art rather than musing or writing. He went to Mexico City to study art at both the undergraduate and graduate level, but never completed his degrees, opting instead to begin career after his coursework. Before his first individual exhibition, his work was criticized by Justino Fernández, but all of the paintings were sold in advance to foreign buyers including American actor Vincent Price, who called Gálvez a “Mexican Picasso.” Gálvez then managed to replace the forty five paintings for the exhibition in a week.
