Ernest Bock
Ernest George Bock (17 September 1908 – 5 September 1961) was a South African cricketer who played in one Test in 1935. Bock was born in Kimberley, South Africa. He was a lower-order right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium pace bowler who played only two full seasons of first-class cricket in South Africa, one for Griqualand West and one for Transvaal. Only a couple of times did he achieve distinction. For Griqualand West against Rhodesia in 1931–32, batting at number 9, he scored 78. In 1934–35, in the final match of the season for Transvaal against Orange Free State he took five wickets for eight runs as the Free State side were bowled out for 70. After that bowling performance, Bock only appeared in three further first-class games. The first of those was the second Test against Australia at Johannesburg in 1935–36, when he batted at number 11 in both innings, scoring 9 and 2, both times not out, and he failed to take a wicket in 23 overs. Kimberley, Northern Cape
Kimberley is the capital and largest city of the Northern Cape province of South Africa. It is located approximately 110 km east of the confluence of the Vaal and Orange Rivers. The city has considerable historical significance due to its diamond mining past and the siege during the Second Anglo-Boer war. British businessmen Cecil Rhodes and Barney Barnato made their fortunes in Kimberley, and Rhodes established the De Beers diamond company in the early days of the mining town. Griqualand West Cricketers
The Griquas (; af, Griekwa, often confused with ''!Orana'', which is written as ''Korana'' or ''Koranna'') are a subgroup of heterogeneous former Khoe-speaking nations in Southern Africa with a unique origin in the early history of the Cape Colony. Text was copied from this source, which is available under a Creative Commons license. Under apartheid, they were given a special racial classification under the broader category of "Coloured". Similar to the Trekboers (another Afrikaans-speaking group of the time), they originally populated the frontiers of the nascent Cape Colony (founded in 1652). The men of their semi-nomadic society formed commando units of mounted gunmen. Like the Boers, they migrated inland from the Cape, in the 19th century establishing several states in what are now South Africa and Namibia. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. Rhodesian Cricket Team
The Rhodesia cricket team played first-class cricket and represented originally the British colony of Southern Rhodesia and later the unilaterally independent state of Rhodesia which became Zimbabwe.
