Ernest Thomas Bell (31 March 1880 – 2 May 1930) was a pastoralist and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Bell was born in Camboon, Queensland, to parents John Thomas Marsh Bell and his wife Gertrude Augusta (née Norton) and attended Toowoomba Grammar School and Ipswich Grammar School. When he left school he was the manager of Combargno Station, Roma. He was involved in many agricultural associations over the years including president of the Fassifern Agricultural and Pastoral Association and chairman of the Australian Meat Council. Ernest Bell (activist)
Ernest Bell (8 March 1851 – 14 September 1933) was an English author, publisher and activist for animal rights and welfare, humanitarianism and vegetarianism. Biography Bell was born in Hampstead, the son of the publisher George Bell. He was educated at St Paul's School, London and attended Trinity College, Cambridge, graduating in 1873 with an BA and an MA in 1876. During his time at Cambridge, Bell had joined the RSPCA in 1873 and in 1874 had become a vegetarian after reading Dr. Thomas Low Nichols' pamphlet ''How to Live on Sixpence a Day''. Bell learned German in Dresden after graduation. Bell's first wife was Elize Wilhelmina Wolfel, who died in 1881; they had one daughter together. In 1893, he married Marie Anna von Taysen; they had no children. Bell spent most of his adult life working for his father's publishing company George Bell & Sons; he was one of the first known English publishers to be a follower of Ralph Waldo Emerson. Ernest Arthur Bell CB (20 June 1926 – 11 June 2006) was an English botanist and chemist who was Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew from 1981 to 1988, the first biochemist to be appointed to the post. Early life Arthur Bell was born at Gosforth, Northumberland and was educated at Dame Allan's School, Newcastle upon Tyne. He took a degree in Chemistry at Durham University and was awarded a doctorate at Trinity College Dublin in 1950. Professional career Bell started his career at ICI in 1946, as a research chemist. In 1947 he took up a research post at Trinity College, Dublin. In 1949 he became a lecturer in Biochemistry at King's College London, where he became Professor of Biology and head of the Department of Plant Sciences in 1972. Ernest David Bell (4 June 1915 – 21 April 1959) was an English-born writer and curator, who was a controversial figure in Welsh arts by challenging the country's artistic heritage, but was also a supporter of young Welsh talent in the field of contemporary arts in the 20th century. Biography Bell was born in 1915 in London, to Idris Bell, a translator of Welsh poetry to English, and Mabel Winifred. Privately educated in England, Bell gained his first appreciation of the arts at Merchant Taylors' School. He graduated from the Royal College of Art and joined the Egypt Exploration Society, working in Sesebi in the Sudan and Amarah in Iraq. With the outbreak of World War II, Bell found work with the cartographical department of the Admiralty, first in England, and then in Wales, being posted to the National Library of Wales at Aberystwyth.
