Ern Manea
Ernest Cosmo Manea (23 December 1926 – 16 October 2013) was a prominent figure in the city of Bunbury, Western Australia. He was the mayor of Bunbury from 1966 to 1972 and again from 1988 to 1997, making him the city's longest-serving mayor. He worked as a general practitioner and was a patron, board member, chairman or president of over 300 organisations. Early life Manea was born in Albany, Western Australia, on 23 December 1926. He was of Irish and Greek descent. He completed secondary education by the time he was 15, having skipped several years of school. Career Manea studied medicine at the University of Western Australia and the University of Adelaide, and then took an internship at Royal Perth Hospital. He moved to Bunbury, Western Australia, on 18 May 1952 to join a medical practice. He became a member of South Bunbury Football Club and became a life member when he was 30. David Smith (Western Australian Politician)
David Lawrence Smith (born 12 October 1943) is a former Australian politician who was a Labor Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1983 to 1996. He served as a minister in the governments of Peter Dowding and Carmen Lawrence. Smith was born in Bunbury, Western Australia. The South West Football League is an Australian rules football league based in the south-west of Western Australia. The league is affiliated to the West Australian Country Football League. History The idea of creating a larger league was discussed early in 1951. The idea that three clubs from the Collie Football Association and the three clubs from the Bunbury Football association would invigorate public interest in the South West region on the state. Roelands Aboriginal Mission
Roelands Aboriginal Mission, also known as Roelands Native Mission or simply Roelands Mission, was a farm property used to house Aboriginal children from the Stolen Generations. Peter Albany Bell, following his retirement in 1928, purchased in Roelands not far from Bunbury, where he established the Chandler Home for Unemployed Boys – a philanthropic venture that stemmed from his time as a Justice of the Peace in the Children's Court, and his observations of how young offenders and miscreants were treated in the United States while on a business trip in 1915. The site was reused by Bell to create the Roelands Native Mission Farm, which was intended to be a self-sufficient, sustainable farm for Aboriginal families. Syd Jackson (born 1 July 1944) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Carlton Blues during the 1970s. He usually played in the centre or half forward flank. An Indigenous Australian, Jackson was a Stolen Generations child and was adopted by Ern Manea. He started his professional footballing career at East Perth in 1963. He was equal first in that year's Sandover Medal count although he was ineligible due to suspension and in 1966 he was named East Perth's best and fairest.
