Ermenegildo Agazzi
Ermenegildo Agazzi (24 July 1866 – 25 October 1945) was an Italian painter, active in painting genre, portraits, and landscapes. He began his career painting in a style similar to Scapigliatura painters. Biography He was born in Mapello, and active mainly in Milan. He was the brother of Rinaldo, also a painter. Agazzi studied at the Accademia Carrara of Bergamo under Cesare Tallone; then moved to Milan, and exhibited at the Brera Academy first in 1886. He won many awards and continued to exhibit until the late 1930s. He exhibited at Paris in 1900 (where he won a gold medal), at Milan in 1901, at Brussels in 1910; and at Milan in 1915 (where he won the Baragiola prize) and 1928 (when he won the Fornara prize). He participated in many Biennale, and in 1930 had a personal exhibition in Milan. In 1938, he was awarded a gold medal by the Ministry of National Education. Gildo Arena
Ermenegildo "Gildo" Arena (25 February 1921 – 8 February 2005) was an Italian water polo player and freestyle swimmer who competed in the 1948 Summer Olympics and in the 1952 Summer Olympics. In 1948 he was part of the Italian team which won the gold medal. He played six matches and scored eleven goals. Four years later he was a member of the Italian team which won the bronze medal in the Olympic tournament. He played in all eight matches. Ermenegildo Costantini (1731 – 1791) was an Italian painter, active in Rome in a late-Baroque style. Biography He was a pupil of Marco Benefial. He painted frescoes at the Chapel of the SS Sacramento at Velletri, and at the gallery of the Palazzo Antici in Recanati. He returned to Rome in 1791 after an earthquake at Recanati. Ermenegildo Florit
Ermenegildo Florit (5 July 1901 – 8 December 1985) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Archbishop of Florence from 1962 to 1977, and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1965. Biography Ermenegildo Florit was born in Fagagna, and attended the seminary in Udine, the Pontifical Roman Seminary, and the Pontifical Biblical Institute and Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. Before finishing his studies in 1927, he was ordained to the priesthood on 11 April 1925. Florit served as a professor (1929–1954) and later the dean of theology and vice-rector (1951–1954) at the Pontifical Lateran University, while also doing pastoral work in Rome. In 1951, he was made a canon of St. Mark's Basilica and, on 21 August, a domestic prelate of his holiness. On 12 July 1954, Florit was appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Florence and Titular Archbishop of Hierapolis in Syria. Ermenegildo Luppi
Ermenegildo Luppi (1877–1937) was an Italian sculptor. Born in Modena, Luppi studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in his hometown under sculptor Giuseppe Gibellini. He moved to Rome in 1901, studying under Ettore Ferrari, and began exhibiting around 1903. After continuing his education in Florence in 1906 and 1907, Luppi returned to Rome permanently in 1907. Winning increasingly important government commissions, Luppi graduated from producing freestanding statues for exhibition into architectural sculpture and war memorials. A tendency towards Fascist imagery and style is clear in his mid-1920s memorials for Modena and Avezzano, both with powerful central figures of Victory. Political content becomes explicit in 1934 at the Palazzo del Podestà, now the City Hall of Foggia, where Luppi contributed two sculpted exterior panels which both feature a muscular Mussolini in heroic poses. Ermenegildo Pellegrinetti
Ermenegildo Pellegrinetti (27 March 1876 – 29 March 1943) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church who served as nuncio to Yugoslavia from 1922 to 1937, and was made a cardinal in 1937. Biography Ermenegildo Pellegrinetti was born in Camaiore, and studied at the seminary in Lucca before going to Rome to study at the Pontifical Academy of Saint Thomas Aquinas, Pontifical Roman Athenaeum "S. Apollinare", and Vatican School of Paleography and Diplomatics. He was ordained to the priesthood on 24 September 1898, and then did pastoral work in Lucca and taught at its seminary until 1917. Pellegrinetti served as a military chaplain during World War I, from 1917 to 1918, after which he was named secretary of the nunciature to Poland. Ermenegildo Pini
Ermenegildo Pini (1739–1825) was an Italian clergyman, naturalist, mathematician, geologist and philosopher. He belonged to the Barnabite Order and worked mainly in northern Italy. He attempted to examine scientific ideas on geological phenomena and fossils and show them as being consistent with the framework of Biblical Genesis. Pini was born in Milan and went to study in the Barnabite schools at Monza and Milan. He studied philosophy and geometry and received a degree in theology in 1760 from Rome. He taught canon law and mathematics at the college of Sant'Alessandro in Zebedia. In 1773 he was appointed head of the newly created Museum of Sant’Alessandro. During the subsequent years, he collected specimens of geology and made studies on the rocks of Europe. Hermenengildo "Gildo" Mahones (June 2, 1929, New York City – April 27, 2018) was an American jazz pianist. Biography Mahones was born to Puerto Rican parents in East Harlem in New York City. Early in his career, he played with Joe Morris (1948) and Milt Jackson. Mahones served in the Army, and then played with Lester Young from 1953 to 1956. Later in the 1950s Mahones toured with the Jazz Modes (which included Charlie Rouse and Julius Watkins), Sonny Stitt, and Benny Green. From 1959 to 1964 Mahones played behind Lambert, Hendricks & Ross. When Lambert, Hendricks & Ross broke up, Mahones moved to Los Angeles, where he worked both as a studio musician and as a jazz sideman. He led his own trio and appeared on recordings by O. C. Smith, Lou Rawls, James Moody, Harold Land and Blue Mitchell, Leon Thomas, Jim Hall, Big Joe Turner, Lorez Alexandria, Benny Carter, Pony Poindexter, Booker Ervin, and Jimmy Witherspoon.
