Erma Gene Evans
Erma-Gene Evans (born 26 January 1984 in Castries) is a Saint Lucian javelin thrower. Erma-Gene holds the Saint Lucia national records for women's Javelin Throw. She attended Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School and Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Castries, before pursuing undergraduate studies in marketing at the University of Texas el Paso. Erma-Gene was a CARIFTA bronze medallist in 2001, then a silver medallist in 2002 and 2003, her last year as a junior. But competing at the Pan American Junior Track & Field Championships that year in Bridgetown, Barbados, she set a meet record and national record of 49.67 to take gold. For that feat, she was named 2003 junior and senior female Athlete of the Year in St. Lucia as well as the junior and senior Sportswoman of the Year. Athletics At The 2006 Central American And Caribbean Games
The athletics competition at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games took place at the Estadio Pedro de Heredia in Cartagena, Colombia and lasted from July 25 to July 29. There were 23 events for men and 21 for women. A total of ten Games records were broken at the competition, in addition to a number of national records. The events were dominated by Cuban athletes, whereas teams like Jamaica did not send their strongest athletes. With 21 gold medals, Cuba won nearly half of the events and 45 medals were won by the country's athletes. Mexico was the next most successful nation, winning eight golds and fourteen medals overall. The women's javelin throw at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place on 19–21 August at the Beijing National Stadium. The qualifying standards were 60.50 m (A standard) and 56.00 m (B standard). Mariya Abakumova held the lead from her first throw, with Barbora Špotáková the only other competitor within 3 metres. Abakumova improved to 70.78 on her fourth throw. Christina Obergföll took third place, and Goldie Sayers took fourth (with a British national record); both of these positions were gained from their first round throws with no improvement thereafter. Then Špotáková threw 71.42 on her final throw to win the gold medal, with Abakumova taking silver. CARIFTA Games
The CARIFTA Games is an annual athletics competition founded by the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA). The games was first held in 1972 and consists of track and field events including sprint races, hurdles, middle distance track events, jumping and throwing events, and relays. The Games has two age categories: under-17 (under-18 until 2017) and under-20. Only countries associated with CARIFTA may compete in the competition.
