Erling Mandelmann
Erling Mandelmann (18 November 1935 – 14 January 2018) was a Danish photographer. He began his career as a freelance photojournalist in the mid-1960s. Biography Mandelmann worked for 40 years as a freelance photojournalist and portrait photographer for a number of Swiss and European publications, as well as for various international organizations such as the World Health Organization, International Labour Organization, the United Nations, and Amnesty International. He took more than 500 portraits of people, including the 14th Dalai Lama, Noël Coward, Gertrude Fehr, Nina Hagen, Johnny Hallyday, and Prince Hans-Adam of Liechtenstein. His photo-archives have been deposited at the Historical Museum of Lausanne. Mandelmann died on 14 January 2018 at the age of 82. Photojournalism
Photojournalism is journalism that uses images to tell a news story. It usually only refers to still images, but can also refer to video used in broadcast journalism. Photojournalism is distinguished from other close branches of photography (such as documentary photography, social documentary photography, war photography, street photography and celebrity photography) by having a rigid ethical framework which demands an honest but impartial approach that tells a story in strictly journalistic terms. Photojournalists contribute to the news media, and help communities connect with one other. Peyo
Pierre Culliford (; 25 June 1928 – 24 December 1992) was a Belgian comics writer and artist who worked under the pseudonym Peyo (). His best-known works are the comic book series ''The Smurfs'' and '' Johan and Peewit'', the latter in which the Smurfs first appeared. Charles-Édouard Jeanneret (6 October 188727 August 1965), known as Le Corbusier ( , , ), was a Swiss-French architect, designer, painter, urban planner, writer, and one of the pioneers of what is now regarded as modern architecture. He was born in Switzerland and became a French citizen in 1930. His career spanned five decades, and he designed buildings in Europe, Japan, India, and North and South America. Dedicated to providing better living conditions for the residents of crowded cities, Le Corbusier was influential in urban planning, and was a founding member of the (CIAM). Oskar Kokoschka
Oskar Kokoschka (1 March 1886 – 22 February 1980) was an Austrian artist, poet, playwright, and teacher best known for his intense Expressionism, expressionistic portraits and landscapes, as well as his theories on vision that influenced the Viennese Expressionist movement. Early life The second child of Gustav Josef Kokoschka, a Bohemian goldsmith, and Maria Romana Kokoschka (née Loidl), Oskar Kokoschka was born in Pöchlarn. He had a sister, Berta, born in 1889; a brother, Bohuslav, born in 1892; and an elder brother who died in infancy. Oskar had a strong belief in omens, spurred by a story of a fire breaking out in Pöchlarn shortly after his mother gave birth to him. Photokina 1974
Photokina (rendered in the promoters' branding as "photokina") is a trade fair held in Europe for the photographic and imaging industries. It is the world's largest such trade fair. The first Photokina was held in Cologne, Germany, in 1950, and since 1966 it has been held biennially in September at the Koelnmesse Trade Fair and Exhibition Centre in Deutz. The final Photokina under the then-current biennial cycle took place in 2018. Initially, the promoters planned to start a new annual cycle in 2019, with future shows to be held in May, but they later decided not to begin the new annual cycle until 2020. The worldwide outbreak of the Coronavirus disease 2019 and its effect on the imaging industry made Koelnmesse decide to cancel both Photokina 2020 and Photokina 2021. Hugo Loetscher
Hugo Loetscher (22 December 1929 – 18 August 2009) was a Swiss writer and essayist. Life Loetscher was born and raised in Zürich. He studied philosophy, sociology, and literature at the University of Zürich and the Sorbonne. At Zürich in 1956 he obtained a doctorate with a work called ''Die politische Philosophie in Frankreich nach 1945' (Political Philosophy in France after 1945"). Afterwards, he was literature reviewer for the newspaper ''Neue Zürcher Zeitung'' and the magazine ''Weltwoche''. From 1958 to 1962 he was a member of the editorial department of the monthly cultural magazine '' Du'' and founded the literary supplement ''Das Wort''. From 1964 until 1969 he was feuilleton editor and member of the editorial board of the ''Weltwoche''. He next became a freelance writer.
