Erling Gjone
Erling Gjone (8 May 1898 – 10 October 1990) was a Norwegian architectural historian and antiquarian. Gjone made significant contributions to the preservation of medieval-era Norwegian buildings. He is most noted for his work with the restoration of the Archbishop's Palace (''Erkebispegården'') in Trondheim. Biography He was born in Levanger in Nord-Trøndelag, Norway. He was the son of David Edvard Gjone (1871–1951) and Kristiane Øwre (1877–1970). After completing his studies at the Norwegian Technical College (NTH), Gjone was an assistant architect with Ole Landmark in Bergen from 1920 to 1924 after which he joined professor Johan Meyer at NTH in Trondheim. Austrått
Austrått or Austrått Manor ( no, Austråttborgen) is a manor in Ørland municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. Since the 10th century, Austrått has been the residence for many noblemen, noblewomen, and officials who played a significant role in Norwegian history. In historical records, Austrått can also be found written as ''Østråt'', ''Østeraat'', ''Østeraad'', ''Austaat'', and ''Austråt.'' The layout of the manor as it stands today is attributed to chancellor Ove Bjelke, for whom construction was completed around 1656. The manor house burned in 1916. Restoration was begun in the 1920s and completed in 1961. The manor house was previously part of a larger property, but the land is now independent from the manor house. The Norwegian state owns the manor house, which is administered by Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum in Trondheim. The manor is open for public tours from June until August. Society For The Preservation Of Ancient Norwegian Monuments
Society for the Preservation of Ancient Norwegian Monuments ( no, Fortidsminneforeningen) is an organization focused on conservation preservation in Norway. The Society was founded in 1844. The founders were painters, historians, art historians and archeologists, including J. C. Dahl and Joachim Frich. Nicolay Nicolaysen became chairman in 1851 and from 1860 was the association antiquarian. The purpose of the association is to protect and preserve buildings, churches and other forms of cultural heritage. It owns forty structures directly, including the stave churches at Borgund, Urnes, Hopperstad and Uvdal. The Society has 18 county branches and 37 local branches in the counties. The branch structure resembles the county structure of Norway, except that Oslo and Akershus are together, Møre and Romsdal is split into Sunnmøre, Nordmøre and Romsdal, and the town of Røros is a division of its own. The Defence Medal 1940–1945 () is the award rewarded to those military and civilian personnel who participated in the fight against the German invasion and occupation of Norway between 1940 and 1945. The Defence Medal 1940–1945 can be awarded both to Norwegian and foreign citizens. The medal may still be awarded due to the large number of participants in the defence of Norway during World War II and the difficulties tracking down all eligible recipients. The medal is in bronze. On the obverse is the coat of arms with the inscription . On the reverse is the royal flag, the flag and national flag. Above these a narrow circle with the inscription (Participant in the struggle). The image is surrounded by a chain. The band is in the Norwegian national colors. The band can be fitted with a rosette if the recipient has distinguished himself several times.
