Erling Fløtten
Erling Fløtten (20 November 1937 – 28 October 2010) was a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. He served as county mayor (''fylkesordfører'') in Finnmark between 1987 and 1995. After that, he was regional director of NHO's Finnmark division until his retirement in 2007. As county mayor, Fløtten signed the first agreement of cooperation between Finnmark and the Murmansk Oblast in 1988. In 2009, Fløtten resigned his membership from the Labour Party after he was removed from the board of the Finnmark Estate (FeFo). Fløtten was also an amateur chess player representing the chess club in Vadsø, and he served as president of the Norwegian Chess Federation between 1997 and 1998. Finnmark
Finnmark (; se, Finnmárku ; fkv, Finmarku; fi, Ruija ; russian: Финнмарк) was a county in the northern part of Norway, and it is scheduled to become a county again in 2024. On 1 January 2020, Finnmark was merged with the neighbouring county of Troms to form the new Troms og Finnmark county. On 1 January 2024, the county will be demerged back to the counties Finnmark and Troms, after a decision made by parliament on 15 June 2022. Finnmark Act
The Finnmark Act () of 2005 transferred about 96% (about 46,000 km2) of the area in the Finnmark county in Norway to the inhabitants of Finnmark. This area is managed by the Finnmark Estate agency. The Finnmark Estate is managed by a board of directors with six members. Three of these are appointed by the Sami Parliament of Norway, and three by the ''Finnmark County Council''. The leader of the board is elected by the Sami Parliament and the County Council in alternating years. Background The background for the Finnmark Act is the Sámi people's fight for their rights to manage their land and culture. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Vadsø, which was the administrative centre of the former Finnmark county. World Senior Chess Championship
The World Senior Chess Championship is an annual chess tournament established in 1991 by FIDE, the World Chess Federation. Overview Originally, the minimum age was 60 years for men, and 50 for women. Since 2014, the Senior Championship is split in two different age categories, 50+ and 65+, with separate open and women-only tournaments. Participants must reach the age of 50 or 65 years by December 31 of the year of the event. The championship is organized as an eleven-round Swiss system tournament. It is an open tournament, and each FIDE member federation may send as many players as desired. A separate women's tournament is held only if there are enough participants (at least 10 women from four different FIDE zones). Helmer Mikkelsen (26 September 1930 – 19 June 1989) was a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. He was born in Børselv, and was the mayor of Porsanger from 1967 to 1975.
