Erlenbach, Switzerland
Erlenbach () is a Municipalities of Switzerland, municipality in the district of Meilen (district), Meilen in the Cantons of Switzerland, canton of Zurich (canton), Zürich in Switzerland. History Erlenbach is first mentioned in 981 as ''Liber Heremi'' though this identification is questionable. Between 1173-90 it was mentioned as ''Erlibach''. Archeological digs have shown that there were settlements in Erlenbach more than 5,000 years ago. During Ancient Rome, Roman times an important road passed through what is now Erlenbach. The Alemanni settled in this village in the 6th century. In 981 the name ''Erlibach'' was first mentioned when the monastery of Einsiedeln Abbey, Einsiedeln acquired the land. Around 1400 the city of Zürich bought the land. Two castles ''Balp'' and ''Dachsberg'' are mentioned in old writings, but there is no evidence left. Albé
Albé (; ) is a commune in the Bas Rhin département in Alsace in north-eastern France. It is located northeast of Villé, on the left bank of the river Giessen close to the valley of Erlenbach, from which it derives its name. To the north and west it is bounded by mountains leading to the communes of Hohwald and Breitenbach. To the east is the peak of Ungersberg. Numerous streams flow from this mounting and the buttresses of the Champ du Feu to the north, which merge to form the brook of the Erlenberg. This river formerly flowed down the main street of the village, but has now been covered. The village is at approximately altitude. Until 1867 the village was known by its German name Erlenbach (in a number of variations) (In romance languages ''Erlen'' shortens to 'Al' and ''bach'' becomes ''ba'' and thence ''bé''). The Erlenbach is a 34.2 km long, left tributary of the Michelsbach in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Course The Erlenbach rises in the South Palatine Wasgau region, the southern part of the Palatine Forest, in the municipality of Birkenhördt. It is the strongest headwater of the Speyerbach, which is the largest river in the Anterior Palatinate.
