Erislandy Savón
Erislandy Savón Cotilla (born July 21, 1990) is a Cuban heavyweight amateur boxer. He won the 91 kg/201 lbs title at the 2008 Youth World Amateur Boxing Championships, the 2009 Pan American Championships at Super Heavyweight and also the AIBA World Boxing Championships 2015 and 2017 in Heavyweight. Career Savón who hails from Guantánamo is a nephew of Félix Savón and also a big puncher. He won the Youth World Championships 2008. At the National Championships he lost the 91 kg/201 lbs semifinal 2008 to Osmay Acosta 3:6 and was disqualified in 2009. 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championships
The 2011 AIBA World Boxing Championships was held at the Heydar Aliyev Sports and Exhibition Complex in Baku, Azerbaijan from September 22 to October 10, 2011. The competition ran under the supervision of the world's governing body for amateur boxing, the AIBA, and followed on from the biggest World Championships in AIBA history which was held in Milan, Italy in 2009. This world championship served as a qualifier for the 2012 Summer Olympics. 685 boxers participated from 127 countries. Roman Kapitanenko (born January 21, 1981) is a Ukrainian amateur boxer who won the bronze medal at the European Championships 2008. He benefitted from Vyacheslav Glazkov's decision to turn pro. Robert Leosdan Alfonso Acea (born November 11, 1986) is a Cuban professional boxer. He is best known for his victory at the 2007 Pan American games in the super heavyweight division. Career Alfonso beat Newfel Ouatah but lost to Russian Evgeny Romanov at the world junior championships 2004 (semifinal). He was also defeated nationally by compatriot superstar Odlanier Solis twice in 2004 at 201 lbs and later went up to super heavy. He became the Cuban #1 only after Solis (who had gone up in weight, too) defected and he beat veteran Michel López Núñez in the National Championships 2007 and 2008. 2009 World Amateur Boxing Championships
The 2009 AIBA World Boxing Championships were held in Milan, Italy, from September 1, 2009 to September 12, 2009, in the Mediolanum Forum. It was the biggest World Championships in AIBA history. The competition was under the supervision of the world's governing body for amateur boxing, the AIBA. Originally, Cameroon, Trinidad and Tobago and Uzbekistan each expressed interest in hosting the championships. However, they did not submit a final application and were therefore withdrawn from the running. This left Italy and South Korea remaining, who were the final two countries in contention during the bidding process to host the 2009 championships. The city of Milan in Italy was then chosen to host the competition. Osmay Acosta Méndez Duarte (born April 3, 1985) is a Cuban former amateur boxer, who competed between 2001 and 2010, best known to win the 2007 PanAm Games at Heavyweight with 201 lbs (91 kg) limit. AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships
