There are 82 known moons of Jupiter, not counting a number of moonlets likely shed from the inner moons. All together, they form a satellite system which is called the Jovian system. The most massive of the moons are the four Galilean moons: Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto, which were independently discovered in 1610 by Galileo Galilei and Simon Marius and were the first objects found to orbit a body that was neither Earth nor the Sun. Carme Group
The Carme group is a group of retrograde and direct motion, retrograde irregular satellites of Jupiter that follow similar orbits to Carme (moon), Carme and are thought to have a common origin. Their semi-major axis, semi-major axes (distances from Jupiter) range between 22.9 and 24.1 gigametre, Gm, their orbital inclinations between 164.9° and 165.5°, and their eccentricity (orbit), orbital eccentricities between 0.23 and 0.27 (with one exception). Erinoma
In Greek mythology, Erinoma () or Erinona () is a beautiful maiden who attracted the attention of both Zeus and Adonis, as well as the wrath of Hera and Aphrodite. Her story seems to be a local variant of Adonis's myth originating from the island of Cyprus, and survives only in the late works of Servius, a Latin grammarian who lived during the early fifth century AD. Family Erinoma was the daughter of a man named Celes, the son of either Ion or Epiuotasterius, two men who arrived to Cyprus from nearby Egypt. Mythology According to the most common versions, Adonis was the son of Cinyras or Theias by his own daughter Myrrha or Smyrna, who tricked her father into bedding her in secret. Irregular Satellites
In astronomy, an irregular moon, irregular satellite or irregular natural satellite is a natural satellite following a distant, inclined, and often eccentric and retrograde orbit. They have been captured by their parent planet, unlike regular satellites, which formed in orbit around them. Irregular moons have a stable orbit, unlike temporary satellites which often have similarly irregular orbits but will eventually depart. The term does not refer to shape as Triton is a round moon, but is considered irregular due to its orbit. As of December 2022, 149 irregular moons are known, orbiting all four of the outer planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune). The largest of each planet are Himalia of Jupiter, Phoebe of Saturn, Sycorax of Uranus, and Triton of Neptune. In astrodynamics, the orbital eccentricity of an astronomical object is a dimensionless parameter that determines the amount by which its orbit around another body deviates from a perfect circle. A value of 0 is a circular orbit, values between 0 and 1 form an elliptic orbit, 1 is a parabolic escape orbit (or capture orbit), and greater than 1 is a hyperbola. The term derives its name from the parameters of conic sections, as every Kepler orbit is a conic section.
