Erik Vea
Erik Vea (born 11 June 1951) is a Norwegian former speedskater. In 1973, Erik Vea competed for Norway in both the European and World Championships, and finished in 13th and 10th places respectively. Erik Vea is the subject of Di Derre's song "Er det noen som husker Erik Vea?" ("Does Anyone Remember Eric Vea?"). The subject is taken from the National Championships in 1973 which in the song took place in Larvik, but in reality took place in Notodden. Vea finished in third place in this championship, behind Sten Stensen and Per Willy Guttormsen. He raced for Arbeidernes SK Aktiv Skøyteklubb ("Active Skating Club"), formerly Arbeidernes Skøyteklubb (Workers' Skating Club") is a Norwegian speed skating club from Oslo. Speedskating
Speed skating is a competitive form of ice skating in which the competitors race each other in travelling a certain distance on skates. Types of speed skating are long track speed skating, short track speed skating, and marathon speed skating. In the Olympic Games, long-track speed skating is usually referred to as just "speed skating", while short-track speed skating is known as "short track". The International Skating Union (ISU), the governing body of competitive ice sports, refers to long track as "speed skating" and short track as "short track skating". Larvik
Larvik () is a List of cities in Norway, town and Municipalities of Norway, municipality in Vestfold in Vestfold og Telemark Counties of Norway, county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Larvik. The municipality of Larvik has about 46,364 inhabitants. Notodden
Notodden () is a List of towns and cities in Norway, city and List of municipalities of Norway, municipality in Vestfold og Telemark Counties of Norway, county, Norway. It is part of the Districts of Norway, traditional region of Øst-Telemark. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Notodden. Notodden was separated from the municipality of Heddal in 1913 to become a separate city and municipality. On 1 January 1964, the rural municipalities of Heddal and Gransherad were merged into Notodden to form a new enlarged municipality. Sten Stensen
Sten Einar Stensen (born 18 December 1947) is a former speed skater. Together with Amund Sjøbrend, Kay Stenshjemmet, and Jan Egil Storholt, he was one of the legendary ''four S-es'' ("four aces" in Norwegian), contemporary Norwegian top skaters in the 1970s and early 1980s. Stensen excelled at the longer distances, especially the 5,000 m and 10,000 m, and set two world records. He was World Allround Champion in 1974 and European Allround Champion in 1975. He also won Olympic gold on the 5,000 m in Innsbruck in 1976. For his accomplishments, he received the Oscar Mathisen Award in 1974 and 1976. During the 1976 European Allround Championships in Oslo, Stensen (the defending European Champion), set a new world record on the 10,000 m, but he still lost his title to fellow Norwegian Kay Stenshjemmet by a tiny margin of only 0.005 points (equivalent to 0.10 seconds on the 10,000 m). Per Willy Guttormsen
Per Willy Guttormsen (born 11 June 1942) is a former Norwegian speed skater and cyclist. He was among the world's best long distance skaters in the 1960s. Guttormsen's international breakthrough was his 6th place in the 1964 World Speed Skating Championships, at age 21. That year he was just outside the Norwegian three-man quota on the long distances at the 1964 Winter Olympics. He participated however in the 1968 and 1972 Olympics, and in the 1968 Winter Olympics he won 4th places in both the 5000 m and 10000 m. Guttormsen held three world records in the course of his skating career. These lasted for 12.7 seconds, for about twenty minutes, and for ten and a half months, respectively. Aktiv Skøyteklubb ("Active Skating Club"), formerly Arbeidernes Skøyteklubb (Workers' Skating Club") is a Norwegian speed skating club from Oslo. The club was founded as Arbeidernes Cykleklubb in 1924, and adopted Arbeidernes Skøyteklubb in 1927. It was a member of the Workers' Sports Federation. After the discontinuation of the Workers' Sports Federation, it retained its worker name until 1978. It then went by ASK; from 2001 Aktiv Skøyteklubb. Inzell
Inzell is a municipality in the district of Traunstein in Bavaria, Germany. It is known for the Eisstadion Inzell, an outdoor artificial ice rink that has been used for many international speed skating championships. It is now an indoor oval. Geography Inzell lies in a wide valley floor in the Chiemgau Alps, framed by the mountains of Rauschberg, Zinnkopf, Teisenberg and the massif of Staufen.
