Erich Novy
Erich Novy (5 February 1937 – 14 July 2016) was a German ice hockey player, who competed for SG Dynamo Weißwasser. He won the bronze medal with the East Germany national ice hockey team at the 1966 European Championships. Novy played a total of 47 games for East Germany at the World Championships between 1957 and 1967, scoring a total of six goals and seven assists. Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. In ice hockey, two opposing teams use ice hockey sticks to control, advance and shoot a closed, vulcanized, rubber disc called a " puck" into the other team's goal. Each goal is worth one point. Ice Hockey European Championships
The Ice Hockey European Championship was an annual ice hockey tournament for European countries associated with the International Ice Hockey Federation. A total of 66 European Champions were crowned in between the years 1910 and 1991. Independent championship tournaments were organized between 1910 and 1927, and again in 1929 and 1932. The 1928 European Championships medals were awarded to the European participants of the Olympic tournament in St. Moritz. After 1932, the European Championship was awarded to the top European team among the participants in the Ice Hockey World Championships. Until 1970, the final standings for the European Championship was determined simply by where European teams placed in the World Championships. 1966 World Ice Hockey Championships
The 1966 Ice Hockey World Championships was the 33rd edition of the Ice Hockey World Championships. The tournament was held in Hala Tivoli, Ljubljana, SR Slovenia, SFR Yugoslavia from 3 to 14 March 1966. For the fourth straight year, the Soviet Union won the tournament. For the Soviets, it was their sixth World and tenth European title. Czechoslovakia beat both Canada and Sweden two to one, to take the Silver, while the Swedes' historic loss to East Germany helped put them fourth behind Canada for the Bronze. The lower two tiers (Groups B and C) were formalized, so there would be no more qualifying tournaments with promotion and relegation taking places between these two tournaments as well. Lausitzer Füchse
The Lausitzer Füchse (literally ''Lusatian Foxes'') is a professional ice hockey team based in Weißwasser, Saxony. They currently play in DEL2, the second level of ice hockey in Germany. Prior to the 2013–14 season they played in the 2nd Bundesliga. History The team was founded already in 1932 but is most significant for its remarkable domination as SG Dynamo Weißwasser in the GDR ice hockey league with over 25 championships. The club was part of the sports association of the East German Ministry of National Defence. After the German reunification the team could not hold its strength, financial problems and relegations followed. Society For International Hockey Research
The Society for International Hockey Research (SIHR) is a network of writers, statisticians, collectors, broadcasters, academics and ice hockey buffs. The society, based in Toronto, Ontario, has an international membership. The society cultivates and encourages the study of ice hockey. The society has been prominent in determining the origins of ice hockey. History The society was formed in 1991. A group of 17 members attending the Canadian Association of Sports Heritage meeting at Kingston, Ontario, met in a special session with the aim of founding an organization dedicated to promoting, developing and encouraging the study of hockey, to establish an accurate historical account of the game, and to assist in the dissemination of the findings and studies derived from member research. ''Lausitzer Rundschau'' is a daily regional newspaper published in Cottbus, Brandenburg, Germany. It has been in circulation since 1946. History and profile ''Lausitzer Rundschau'' was founded in Bautzen and first published with a cover price of 15 pfennigs, on 20 May 1946. It was a regional media outlet of the East German ruling party, Socialist Unity Party, and the editor-in-chief was Paula Acker. In 1952 the offices of the paper moved to Görlitz, the largest town in the Upper Lusatia region. The paper consisted of eight pages. East Germany National Ice Hockey Team
The East Germany, East German national men's ice hockey team was a national ice hockey representing the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The first international game was played in East Berlin on 28 January 1951, losing 3–8 to Poland men's national ice hockey team, Team Poland. The team competed in many international competitions, including several in which they competed with the top teams for medals, but won only the European Championship bronze medal in 1966 Ice Hockey World Championships, 1966 in Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Yugoslavia. The only time they competed in the Olympics was in Grenoble in 1968. They scored 13 goals in 7 games, but didn't win any games leaving them with no points in the standings. IIHF World Championship
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF; french: Fédération internationale de hockey sur glace; german: Internationale Eishockey-Föderation) is a worldwide Sport governing body, governing body for ice hockey. It is based in Zürich, Zurich, Switzerland, and has 83 member countries. The IIHF maintains the IIHF World Ranking based on international ice hockey tournaments. Rules of play for IIHF events differ from hockey in North America and the rules of the National Hockey League (NHL). Decisions of the IIHF can be appealed through the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland. The IIHF maintains its own hall of fame for international ice hockey.
