Erich Maren Schlaikjer
Erich Maren Schlaikjer (; November 22, 1905 in Newtown, Ohio – November 5, 1972) was an American geologist and dinosaur hunter. Assisting Barnum Brown, he co-described ''Pachycephalosaurus'' and what is now ''Montanoceratops''. Other discoveries include ''Miotapirus'' and a new species of ''Mesohippus''. Schlaikjer attended Harvard University, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1929. He received master’s and doctoral degrees from Columbia University in 1931 and in 1935, respectively. Newtown, Ohio
Newtown is a village (United States)#Ohio, village in southeastern Hamilton County, Ohio, Hamilton County, Ohio, United States, near Cincinnati. The population was 2,702 at the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census. Newtown was settled in 1792 and incorporated as a village in 1901. History Multiple Mound builder (people), Native American mounds and other Earthworks (archaeology), earthworks were once located on the site of Newtown. Newtown was first settled in 1792 under the name of Mercersburg. The name was changed before the village incorporated in 1901. Still in existence today are the Odd Fellows' Cemetery Mound and the Perin Village Site, plus the Turpin site and the Hahn Field Archeological District just outside the village's boundaries. The Geological Society Of America
The Geological Society of America (GSA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of the geosciences. History The society was founded in Ithaca, New York, in 1888 by Alexander Winchell, John J. Stevenson, Charles H. Hitchcock, John R. Procter and Edward Orton and has been headquartered at 3300 Penrose Place, Boulder, Colorado, US, since 1967. GSA began with 100 members under its first president, James Hall. In 1889 Mary Emilie Holmes became its first female member. It grew slowly but steadily to 600 members until 1931, when a nearly $4 million endowment from 1930 president R. A. F. Penrose Jr. jumpstarted GSA's growth. As of December 2017, GSA had more than 25,000 members in over 100 countries.
