Eric Porter (filmmaker)
Eric Ernest Porter (June 19, 1911 — May 1, 1983) was an Australian filmmaker and animator who specialised in documentaries and commercials, but also made several features. He directed Australia's first animated feature, '' Marco Polo Junior Versus the Red Dragon'' (1972). That film's financial failure forced him to close his animation studio. Porter was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) with effect December 20, 1983 in the 1984 Australia Day Honours for "service to the film industry particularly in the field of animation". Marco Polo Junior Versus The Red Dragon
''Marco Polo Junior Versus the Red Dragon'' (also known as ''Marco Polo Junior'' or ''The Red Red Dragon'' in the United States) is a 1972 Australian-American animated musical adventure film directed by Eric Porter, written by Sheldon Moldoff, and was the country's first animated feature film. The two sequence directors were Porter's animation director Cam Ford (who had previously worked on the Beatles' '' Yellow Submarine'') and Peter Gardiner. The film was later re-edited and combined with new sequences to become ''Marco Polo: Return to Xanadu'' in 2001. National Film And Sound Archive
The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA), known as ScreenSound Australia from 1999 to 2004, is Australia's audiovisual archive, responsible for developing, preserving, maintaining, promoting and providing access to a national collection of film, television, sound, radio, video games, new media, and related documents and artefacts. The collection ranges from works created in the late nineteenth century when the recorded sound and film industries were in their infancy, to those made in the present day. The NFSA collection first started as the National Historical Film and Speaking Record Library (within the then Commonwealth National Library) in 1935, becoming an independent cultural organisation in 1984. A Son Is Born
''A Son Is Born'' is a 1946 Australian melodrama directed by Eric Porter and starring Ron Randell, Peter Finch, and Muriel Steinbeck. Synopsis In 1920, Laurette marries an irresponsible drifter, Paul Graham. They have a son, David, but later divorce due to Paul's drinking and infidelities. David chooses to stay with his father and Laurette marries again, this time to John, a rich businessman with a teenaged daughter, Kay. Years later Paul is killed in a car accident and David comes to live with his mother, John and Kay. To get revenge on his mother for "abandoning" his father, David seduces Kay into marriage and abandons her, but realises the error of his ways serving in New Guinea during World War II. He is injured in battle but survives to be reunited with Kay, Laurette and John.
