Eric Njuguna
Eric Damien Njuguna (born circa 2003) is a climate activist from Kenya. Njuguna started their climate activism in 2017 after severe droughts in Nairobi impacted their school's water supply. by organizing with the group Zero Hour and then Fridays for Future Kenya. In August 2021, Njuguna co-authored an essay with Greta Thunberg, Adriana Calderón, and Farzana Faruk Jhumu that was published in The New York Times. Their co-authored essay highlighted a 2021 UNICEF report that stated 2.2 billion children are at "extremely high-risk" of experiencing the consequences of climate change. Later in 2021, Njuguna attended the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) and represented Fridays for Future Kenya. The climate movement is a global social movement focused on pressuring governments and industry to take action (also called " climate action") addressing the causes and impacts of climate change. Environmental non-profit organizations have engaged in significant climate activism since the late 1980s and early 1990s, as they sought to influence the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Climate activism has become increasingly prominent over time, gaining significant momentum during the 2009 Copenhagen Summit and particularly following the signing of the Paris Agreement in 2016. Vanessa Nakate
Vanessa Nakate (born 15 November 1996) is a Ugandan climate justice activist. Early life Nakate grew up in the Ugandan capital, Kampala neighborhood. She grew up in Kampala and became a celebrity in December 2018 after becoming concerned about the unusually high temperatures in her country. Nakate graduated with a business administration in marketing degree from Makerere University Business School. Actions for the climate Inspired by Greta Thunberg to start her own climate movement in Uganda, Nakate began a solitary strike against inaction on the climate crisis in January 2019. For several months she was the lone protester outside of the gates of the Parliament of Uganda. More rigorously, it is the mean and variability of meteorological variables over a time spanning from months to millions of years. In common usage, climate change describes global warming—the ongoing increase in global average temperature—and its effects on Earth's climate system. Climate change in a broader sense also includes previous long-term changes to Earth's climate. The current rise in global average temperature is more rapid than previous changes, and is primarily caused by humans burning fossil fuels. Fossil fuel use, deforestation, and some agricultural and industrial practices increase greenhouse gases, notably carbon dioxide and methane. Elizabeth Wanjiru Wathuti (born August 1, 1995) is a Kenyan environment and climate activist and founder of the Green Generation Initiative, which nurtures young people to love nature and be environmentally conscious at a young age and has now planted 30,000 tree seedlings in Kenya. In 2019, she was awarded the Africa Green Person of the Year Award by the Eleven Eleven Twelve Foundation and named as one of the 100 Most Influential Young Africans by the Africa Youth Awards.
