Eric Hurd (born May 19, 1986 in Kennesaw, Georgia) is an American slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 2002 to 2014 under the guidance of the legendary Micajah Mccury. Kennesaw, Georgia
Kennesaw is a suburban city northwest of Atlanta in Cobb County, Georgia, United States, located within the greater Atlanta metropolitan area. Known from its original settlement in the 1830s until 1887 as Big Shanty, it became Kennesaw under its 1887 charter. According to the 2010 census, Kennesaw had a population of 29,783, but in 2019 it had a population of 34,077 showing a 14.4% increase in population over the past decade. Kennesaw has an important place in railroad history. During the Civil War, Kennesaw was the staging ground for the Great Locomotive Chase on April 12, 1862. Canoe slalom (previously known as whitewater slalom) is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on river rapids in the fastest time possible. Canoeing At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's Slalom C-2
The men's canoe slalom C-2 competition at the 2012 Olympic Games in London took place between 30 July and 2 August at the Lee Valley White Water Centre. Twenty-eight canoeists from 12 countries competed. Great Britain's Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott won the gold medal and David Florence and Richard Hounslow won silver. Twin brothers Pavol and Peter Hochschorner of Slovakia won the bronze. Competition format In the heats, each competitor had two runs; the 10 teams with the best time qualified for the semi-finals. Each semi-final consisted of one run each and the best six qualified for the final. The final saw one run each where the team with the best time won the gold medal. 2008 Canoe Slalom World Cup
The 2008 Canoe Slalom World Cup was a series of seven races in 4 canoeing and kayaking categories organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF). It was the 21st edition. The series consisted of 4 continental championships (Africa, Oceania, Pan American and Asia) which were open to all countries and 3 world cup races. The athletes gained points for their results in the three world cup races plus their best result from any of the four continental championships. Calendar Final standings The winner of each race was awarded 50 points. Paddlers outside the top 20 in the C2 event and outside the top 40 in the other 3 events were awarded 2 points for participation. If two or more athletes or boats were equal on points, the ranking was determined by their positions in the final world cup race.
