Erfweiler
Erfweiler is a municipality in Südwestpfalz district, in Rhineland-Palatinate, western Germany. It is a state-recognised resort. Geography Location Erfweiler lies in the German part of the Wasgau, as the southern end of the Palatine Forest and northern part of the Vosges are also called, and belongs to the natural regional of the Dahn Rockland. 82.5% of the parish is forested. Its neighbouring communities in clockwise order are Hauenstein, Schwanheim, Busenberg, Schindhard and Dahn. High points In the east, at the tripoint with Schwanheim and Busenberg is the Wolfshorn, , and, to the southwest on the boundary with Busenberg is the ''Eichelberg''. On the boundary with Hauenstein is the Mitel-Schachen and the Winterberg () and, to the west of that, is the ''Trögenberg'' () and the ''Wölmersberg'' further south. German Schafkopf
German Schafkopf (german: Deutscher Schafkopf) is an old German card game and the forerunner of the popular modern games of Skat, Doppelkopf and Bavarian Schafkopf. Today it is hardly ever played in its original form, but there are a number of regional derivations. History Schafkopf dates to the 18th century or earlier and is the oldest member of the Schafkopf family.McLeod (1978), pp. 38-47. A 1783 novel describes the scene after a wedding dinner as the dining tables were cleared away and replaced by games tables: "here stood an Ombre table, there a noble Schafkopf was played, over there a game of forfeits, soon everybody was busy playing when suddenly the sound of the strings announced the arrival of the dance band..." Wasgau
The Wasgau (german: Wasgau, french: Vasgovie) is a Franco-German hill range in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the French departments of Bas-Rhin and Moselle. It is formed from the southern part of the Palatine Forest and the northern part of the Vosges mountains, and extends from the River Queich in the north over the French border to the Col de Saverne in the south. The highest hill in the entire Wasgau is the Grand Wintersberg (581 m above NHN) near Niederbronn-les-Bains in northern Alsace. Next, at 577 m is the only slightly lower Rehberg near Annweiler in the South Palatinate, which is the highest summit on German soil in the Wasgau. Südwestpfalz
Südwestpfalz is a district (''Kreis'' or more precise ''Landkreis'') in the south of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from west clockwise) Saarpfalz, the district-free city Zweibrücken, the districts Kaiserslautern and Bad Dürkheim, the district-free city Landau (the Taubensuhl/Fassendeich forest part of the city), Südliche Weinstraße, and the French ''département'' Bas-Rhin. The district-free city Pirmasens is surrounded by the district. History The district was created 18 February 1818 as the ''Landkommisariat Pirmasens''. During the communal reforms of 1968-72, several changes were made to the district. Palatinate Forest-North Vosges Biosphere Reserve
The Franco-German Palatinate Forest-North Vosges Biosphere Reserve (german: Biosphärenreservat Pfälzerwald-Nordvogesen, french: Réserve de biosphère transfrontalière des Vosges du Nord-Forêt palatine) was created in 1998 as the first UNESCO trans-boundary biosphere reserve in Europe. The German part became the 12th of 16 biosphere reserves in Germany and the French one the 6th of 14 in France. The biosphere reserve is a fusion of the older Palatinate Forest Nature Park in Germany and Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park in France, covering a total area of 3,018 km², with 1,809.7 km² in Germany and 1208.3 km² in France respectively. Palatine Forest Nature Park
The Palatinate Forest Nature Park (german: Naturpark Pfälzerwald) lies in the south of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany and borders on France. The nature park covers an area of and some 76% of its area is under the woods of the Palatinate Forest, the largest contiguous forest region in Germany. Together with parts of northern Alsace and Lorraine, it forms the Palatinate Forest-North Vosges Biosphere Reserve and has an impressive Bunter sandstone landscape. The park is the responsibility of the ''Naturpark Pfälzerwald e.V.'' founded on 20 July 1982.
