Eren Eyüboğlu
Eren Eyüboğlu ( née Ernestine Leibovici; 1913–1988) was a Romanian-born Turkish painter, ceramicist, and mosaic artist. She is considered one of the forerunners of modernism in Turkey. Biography Ernestine Leibovici was born on 5 February 1913 in Iași, Romania. She attended George Enescu National University of Arts (formerly Academy of Fine Arts Lași), where she graduated in 1928. From 1930 to 1932, she continued her education at Andre Lhote's studio (also known as Academy André Lhote) in Paris and Académie Julian. In 1933, she studied art in Istanbul. In 1933, she married artist Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, whom she met at Andre Lhote's studio. When she married, Ernestine adopted the Turkish name “Eren”. Bedri would go on to have an affair with artist Mari Gerekmezyan in the 1940s, which put a strain on their marriage. George Enescu National University Of Arts
The George Enescu National University of Arts ( ro, Universitatea Națională de Arte „George Enescu”) is a public university in Iași, Romania, founded in 1860. It was named in honor of the composer George Enescu. History The institution was established on 1 October 1860, as the ''Music and Declamation School'', by decree of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, followed 26 days later, by the foundation of the School for Sculpture and Painting. In October 1864, Cuza approved the Charter for the ''Music and Declamation Conservatory'' and the Charter for the ''National Schools of Fine Arts'' (establishing the departments of painting, sculpture, gravure, architecture and the art of landscape architecture). The Block Museum of Art is a free public art museum located on the campus of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. The Block Museum was established in 1980 when Chicago art collectors Mary (daughter of Albert Lasker) and Leigh B. Block (former vice president of Inland Steel Company), donated funds to Northwestern University for the construction of an art exhibition venue. In recognition of their gift, the university named the changing exhibition space the Mary and Leigh Block Gallery. The original conception of the museum was modeled on the German ''kunsthalle'' tradition, with no permanent collection, and a series of changing temporary exhibits. A mosaic is a pattern or image made of small regular or irregular pieces of colored stone, glass or ceramic, held in place by plaster/mortar, and covering a surface. Mosaics are often used as floor and wall decoration, and were particularly popular in the Ancient Roman world.
