Erdne Ombadykow ( xal, Омбадһа Эрдн, translit=Ombadha Erdn, , russian: Эрдни Басангович Омбадыков, translit=Erdni Basangovich Ombadykov, , born 27 October 1972 in Philadelphia), also known as Telo Tulku Rinpoche (russian: Тэло Тулку Ринпоче), is the Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader of the Kalmyk people. He received his formal training as a bhikṣu in India and was recognized by the 14th Dalai Lama as the current reincarnation of ''mahasiddha'' Tilopa. Since 1992, Telo Tulku has served as the spiritual head (Shadjin Lama, xal, Шаҗн лама, translit=Şacn lama}, ) of the Buddhists of Kalmykia. He divides his time between Kalmykia and his family in Erie, Colorado. Kalmyk Oirat ( xal-RU, Хальмг Өөрдин келн, links=no, ''Haľmg Öördin keln'', ), commonly known as the Kalmyk language ( xal-RU, Хальмг келн, links=no, ''Haľmg keln'', ), is a variety of the Oirat language, natively spoken by the Kalmyk people of Kalmykia, a federal subject of Russia. In Russia, it is the standard form of the Oirat language (based on the Torgut dialect), which belongs to the Mongolic language family. The Kalmyk people of the Northwest Caspian Sea of Russia claim descent from the Oirats from Eurasia, who have also historically settled in Mongolia and Northwest China.
