Ercole Dell'Abate
Ercole dell'Abate or dell'Abbate (1573–1613) was an Italian mannerist painter in his native Modena. In English, his name is sometimes given as Ercole Abbate, Abate or Abati. The eldest son of Giulio Camillo dell' Abbate, and grandson of Niccolò dell'Abbate, Niccolo, Ercole was born at Modena about the year 1563. His father, Pietro Paolo, was also a painter. Ercole's first works date from 1596. He possessed an extraordinary genius for the arts, which he disgraced by the depravity and intemperance of his conduct. Like most artists of that character, his works were the productions of negligence and haste. He painted, in concurrence with Bartolomeo Schedoni, Bartolommeo Schedone, some pictures representing scenes in the Life of Hercules, in the Modena#Town Hall, Council-hall at Modena. Ercole Grandi
Ercole Grandi (–before 1 November 1525) was an Italian painter of the early-Renaissance period, active mainly in Ferrara. Also known as Ercole da Ferrara and Ercole di Giulio Cesare Grandi, he has been claimed to be a favourite pupil of the painter Lorenzo Costa. Ercole Grandi first appeared in the historical record as being in the service of the house of Este in 1489. Between 1489 and 1495, Ercole Grandi seems to have been working in Bologna, both in San Petronio and in the Cappella Bentivoglio of San Giacomo Maggiore, as an assistant to Lorenzo Costa. In 1495, he was in Ferrara as the chief architect for realising Duke Ercole's plans to embellish the city and renovate the churches; the facade and interior of Santa Maria in Vado were executed from his design. He worked with Ludovico Mazzolino and others on the decoration of the Castello, and painted in the apartments of Lucretia Borgia. Ercole Procaccini il Giovane (''the Younger'') (c. 6 August 1605 – 14 November 1675 or 2 March 1680) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period. Born to a family of painters in Milan, he initially apprenticed with his father, painter Carlantonio Procaccini. In 1621 he was enrolled in the first session of the Accademia Ambrosiana. His uncles, Camillo and Giulio Cesare Procaccini, were also painters. His grandfather was Ercole Procaccini the Elder. He was trained with his uncle Giulio Cesare Procaccini in the city. Ercole Procaccini the Elder (1520 – 1595) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance period, mainly active in Milan. He was born in Bologna. He painted an ''Annunciation'' for the church of San Benedetto, a ''Conversion of St. Paul'' and a ''Christ in the Garden'' for San Giacomo Maggiore, a ''St. Michael defeating the rebel Angels'' for San Bernardo, and a ''Deposition from the Cross'' for the church of Santo Stefano. Ercole Patti (16 February 1903 – 15 November 1976) was an Italian writer, dramatist, screenwriter and journalist. Born in Catania into an upper-middle-class family, the nephew of author Giuseppe Villaroel, Patti started working as a journalist at very young age, before graduating in law in 1925. After practicing for a year in his father's firm, he decided to move to Rome where earning a living from journalism. There, after some sporadic collaborations, he was employed in the newspaper '' Gazzetta del Popolo'', where he was a foreign correspondent in China, India and Japan, among other places. He got notoriety as a novelist in 1940, with ''Quartieri alti'', a satirical portrait of Roman high classes. His novels are mainly set in Rome or in a sensual Sicily, which was, according to literary critic Carlo Bo, a sort of philosophical ideal for Patti. Ercole Pasquini (ca. 1560 – between 1608 and 1619) was an Italian composer and organist. Biography Pasquini was born at Ferrara, and studied with Alessandro Milleville (1521?-1589). He was described by Agostino Superbi (1620) as a most clever and excellent musician and organist. "He had a very nimble hand; and sometimes played so splendidly that he enraptured the people and truly amazed them." In the 1580s, Pasquini took over the musical instruction of the daughters of Giovan Battista Aleotti, court architect of Ferrara, from Milleville. On 1 May 1592, Pasquini became the organist of the ''ridotti'' of Mario Bevilacqua and of the Olivetian church, Santa Maria in Organo, in Verona. While he held these positions, he wrote and published a ''favola boscareccia'' entitled ''I fidi amanti'' (Verona, 1593) in anticipation of the wedding of Don Carlo Gesualdo and Eleonora d'Este which took place in Ferrara the following year (1594). Ercole Luigi Morselli
Ercole Luigi Morselli (Pesaro, 19 February 1882 – Rome, 16 March 1921) was an Italian writer and dramatist. In Florence, where his family moved in 1891 following his father, a state counsel who died there in 1895, Morselli attempted to study medicine and literature, but in both cases he did not succeed and had to interrupt his studies. In the following years he had a very turbulent life, with many journeys first in Africa and Latin America, then also in England and France. Morselli was a friend of Giovanni Papini and Giuseppe Prezzolini. After his return to Italy, Morselli started his literary career, which was initially quite difficult, such that his mother had to support him for long time. In 1910 his tragicomedy ''Orione'' obtained a great success, but Morselli did not reach economic stability until 1919, with the success of ''Glauco'', a drama given in Rome. Ercole Antonio Mattioli (1 December 1640 – 1694) was an Italian politician, who was a minister of Duke Charles IV of Mantua. He was kidnapped and imprisoned by Louis XIV of France. He has been associated with the Man in the Iron Mask. Biography Mattioli was born at Valenza, in what is now the province of Alessandria. He worked as a minister of Charles IV, Duke of Mantua, who, as Marquess of Montferrat, possessed the strategic fortress of Casale Monferrato. Louis XIV wanted the fortress and was willing to purchase it for 100,000 crowns. Since a French occupation would be unpopular, secrecy was needed until the deal was finalised. Mattioli successfully negotiated the trade and in gratitude, Louis XIV rewarded him lavishly. However, when the French were about to occupy the castle, Mattioli revealed the secret deal to the governments of Austria, Savoy, Spain and Venice, possibly for additional rewards. Ercole Marelli (Milan, 19 May 1867 - Tremezzina, 28 August 1922 ) was an Italian engineer and entrepreneur. Biography Marelli was born in Milan on May 19, 1867, the son of a craftsman from the Como area. At fifteen he began working as an apprentice at a mechanical workshop. In 1885 he was presented to Bartolomeo Cabella, director of the Italian Brown Boveri Tecnomasio and hired as a mechanic for measuring instruments and for electrical work applied to lighting. In October 1888 he went to Asunción in Paraguay, just twenty years old, where he assembled and operated an electrical system for the Concha Sociedad plant.
