Erath County () is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the United States Census bureau its population was 42,545 in 2020. The county seat is Stephenville. The county is named for George Bernard Erath, an early surveyor and a soldier at the Battle of San Jacinto. Erath County is included in the Stephenville, Texas, Micropolitan Statistical Area. Erath County is the location of two of North America's largest renewable natural gas plants. The largest is at Huckabay Ridge, near Stephenville. The second largest is located outside Dublin at Rio Leche Estates. History Native Americans Caddo tribe Anadarko villages were scattered along the Trinity and Brazos Rivers. Erath, Louisiana
Erath is a town in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 2,114 at the 2010 census, and 2,030 at the 2020 population estimates program. It is part of the Abbeville micropolitan statistical area. History Erath is named after August Erath (18 March 1843 - 11 September 1900) who emigrated from Switzerland to New Orleans in 1860 and was a bookkeeper in the breweries. He moved to New Iberia in 1876 and erected a brewery there. Erath was later mayor of New Iberia and began to develop land in the Erath area. Although August Erath never lived in Erath, he was close to railroad officials, which brought forth a great business venture for him. Later, Erath built a seltzer water factory in New Iberia and an ice plant in Abbeville. In 1884, he started a hardware business and purchased land located in this area. George Bernard Erath
George Bernard Erath (January 1, 1813 – May 13, 1891) served in both the Texas House of Representatives and Texas Senate. Biography Born in Vienna, Austria, he was a Texas pioneer and soldier who fought in the Texas Revolution, subsequently supporting the Republic's annexation to the United States. As a surveyor, he drew up the original street grids for the Texas cities of Waco, Caldwell, and Stephenville. He was a charter member of historic Waco Masonic Lodge #92. He married Lucinda Chalmers in December 1845, and they had five children. He was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1844 and 1846, and to the Texas Senate in 1848, 1861, and 1873.
