Equestrian At The 2024 Summer Paralympics – Team Open
Equestrian events at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, France are held at the Château de Versailles. There are eleven gender free events: ten individual events and one mixed team event. Competition format Teams are made of three athletes, all of whom are also competing for individual medals. Nations without a team can be represented by one or two individual athlete(s). The para-dressage competition starts with the Grand Prix Test A, which serves as an individual competition and in which the first individual medals are awarded. The best first 8 (eight) riders from each grade are qualified for the individual Freestyle. The second test, the Grand Prix Test B counts as Team test which serves as team competition where the team medals will be awarded. Only nations with a team can compete in the Grand Prix test B competition. Fiona Howard
Fiona Howard (born December 14, 1998) is a British-American para equestrian. She competes in Grade II para dressage. Howard is representing the United States at the 2024 Summer Paralympics. Early life and education Howard was born to an American mother and British father in England, and was raised in London. Starting when she was 11 and continuing into her teenage years, she faced a number of health problems. Issues with her bones inhibited walking. Her digestive system was impacted by bouts of scarlet fever and Lyme disease, resulting in the permanent use of a feeding tube. Howard immigrated to the United States in 2016 while pursuing medical treatment at Boston Children's Hospital. Sophie Wells
Sophie Wells (born 5 May 1990) is a British para-equestrian who won three medals at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, and 2 Golds and 1 Silver at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, and most recently Team Gold & Individual Silver at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. Personal life Wells was born on 5 May 1990 in Lincoln, England. She was born with amniotic band syndrome and as a result she has no feeling or little movement in her feet and has lost numerous fingers. Because of her disability she competes in the Grade V Paralympic classification, the classification for riders with the lowest level of physical disability. Kate Shoemaker (born August 25, 1987) is an American Paralympic equestrian. She represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Rebecca Hart (born October 26, 1984) is a para-equestrian from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Hart was born with a rare genetic disease, Familial spastic paraplegia (FSP). FSP affected Hart as a child with difficulty gaining strength in her upper body as well as slowing down her motor development. At the age of 10, Rebecca began horseback riding. Just a few years later after attending the Paralympic movement in 1998 at a regional competition in Atlanta, Georgia, Hart realized that she would like to train for competition.
