Equestrian At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Individual Dressage
The individual dressage in equestrian at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro was held at National Equestrian Center from 10 - 15 August. The medals for the competition were presented by Syed Shahid Ali, Pakistan, member of the International Olympic Committee, and the gifts were presented by Maria Gretzer, FEI executive board member. Competition format The team and individual dressage competitions used the same results. Dressage had three phases, with the last being used only for the individual event. The first phase was the Grand Prix. Individuals advanced to the second phase, the Grand Prix Special, if they were on one of the top seven teams or were one of the top 11 remaining competitors. The top 18 competitors in the Grand Prix Special (ignoring Grand Prix scores) advanced to the final phase, the Grand Prix Freestyle. Judy Reynolds
Judy Reynolds (born 11 June 1981 in Kildare, Ireland) is an Irish Olympic dressage rider. Representing Ireland, she participated at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she achieved 18th place in the individual competition. Reynolds also competed at four World Equestrian Games (in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018) and at four European Championships (in 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019). Her current best championship results were achieved in 2019, when she placed 5th in both special and freestyle competitions. Fiona Bigwood (born 24 April 1976) is a British dressage rider, and winner of a silver medal in the team dressage event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Early life Bigwood was born on 24 April 1976. By the time she was 10 years old, Bigwood rode Tanya Larrigan's old Grand Prix horse Salute on lease. She soon competed at the 1993 Junior European Championships and the Young Rider European Championships. As a teenager, she trained in Denmark and was educated at Croydon High School. Career In 1997, Bigwood became the youngest British rider to be selected for a Senior European Championships. In the same year, she won the British National Elementary title with Afrikka and was shortlisted for the 1998 World Equestrian Games. Anna Kasprzak (born 8 December 1989) is a Danish dressage rider. She represented Denmark at two Summer Olympics (in 2012 and 2016). Her best Olympic result came in 2012 when she placed 4th with a Danish team in the team competition. Meanwhile, her best individual Olympic result is 14th place achieved in 2016. Kasprzak represented Denmark at 2014 World Equestrian Games held in Normandy, France and at two European Dressage Championships (in 2013 and 2015). Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour (born 2 January 1992) is a Danish Olympic dressage horse rider. Representing Denmark, she competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro where she finished 13th in the individual and 6th in the team competition. Steffen Peters (born September 18, 1964) is a German-born equestrian who competes for the United States in dressage. He has participated in five Olympic Games, winning a team bronze medal on two occasions (in 1996 and 2016) and a team silver medal once (2020). Diederik Van Silfhout
Diederik van Silfhout (born 20 April 1988 in Ede, Netherlands) is a Dutch Olympic dressage rider. Representing the Netherlands, he competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics where he placed 4th in the team and 11th in the individual competitions. Van Silfhout also competed at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France, where he won a team bronze medal and placed 9th in the freestyle dressage competition. Beatriz Ferrer-Salat Serra de Migui (born March 11, 1966) is an equestrian from Spain who competes internationally in the sport of dressage. She won two Olympic medals, a silver and a bronze, at the 2004 Games, and also competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics, 2000 Summer Olympics, 2016 Summer Olympics and 2020 Summer Olympics.
