Equatorial Guinea Men’s National Basketball Team
The Equatorial Guinea national basketball team is the national basketball team from Equatorial Guinea. It has yet to appear at the FIBA World Championship or the FIBA Africa Championship. The team was originally set to take part in the AfroBasket 2017 qualification. At the AfroBasket 2021 qualification, the team started out strong as it won its first four games. Yet, at the end the Equatoguineans did not qualify due to narrowly losing the direct comparison against Guinea by two points. Competitive record AfroBasket Equatorial Guinea has never qualified for an AfroBasket tournament, although it was close in the 2021 qualification. AfroBasket 2013
AfroBasket 2013 was the 27th FIBA Africa Championship, played under the rules of FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, and the FIBA Africa thereof. The tournament was hosted by Ivory Coast from August 20 to 31, all games were played at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, Abidjan. Angola defeated Egypt 57–40 in the final to win their eleventh title. Format The sixteen teams were split into four groups. Every team advanced to the knockout stage and participated at the Round of 16. The winners advanced to the quarterfinals to play out the champion. The losers from those quarterfinals played for the places 5–8. The defeated teams from the round of 16 were ranked by their preliminary round results and played placement games for the places 9–16. San Antonio de Palé, formerly known as St Antony, São Antonio de Praia and Palea, is the capital of Annobón (an island in Equatorial Guinea that was once part of the Spanish Empire in Africa). Nueva Era Basket Club (in English: New Era Basketball Club) is an Equatorial Guinean basketball team based in Malabo. The team was founded in 2021 by a group of basketball enthusiast, led by Jules Cesar Micha Nfono. The establishment of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) in the same year inspired them to provide a club for the youth of national basketball. The AfroBasket 2025 qualification will be a basketball competition that will be played from February to November 2024, to determine the 16 nations who will join the automatically qualified host Angola at the FIBA AfroBasket 2025. Pre-qualifiers The participating teams were divided into four groups: Group A (Zones 1+2), Group B (Zones 3+4), Group C (Zone 5 + MAD + DJI) and Group D (Zone 6 + MRI + COM). FIBA AfroBasket 2025 will be the 31st edition of the FIBA AfroBasket, a men's basketball continental championship of Africa. The tournament will be hosted by Angola for the fourth time.
