Equal Rights Party (Canada)
The Equal Rights Party was a Canadian political party that ran candidates in elections in Ontario in 1890 and 1891. It ran a joint Liberal-Equal Rights candidate in the 1890 Ontario general election. The party nominated two candidates in the 5 March 1891 federal election. Samuel Grandy, running in Durham East riding in Ontario, won 1,685 of the 3,431 votes cast (49.11% of the popular votes), losing narrowly to Conservative Party candidate Thomas Dixon Craig, who collected 1,746 votes. The other Equal Rights Party candidate, W.H. Lewis, was less successful, collecting only 770 of the 9,450 votes cast (8.15% of the popular vote) in the City of Ottawa riding, which was a two-member constituency. The Equal Rights party may have been associated with Dalton McCarthy, leader of the McCarthyites, a group of 10 candidates who ran in the 1896 election. Equal Rights (Latvia)
Equal Rights (ER; lv, Līdztiesība, russian: Равноправие) was a political party in Latvia, mainly supported by the Russian minority. ER was founded on the basis of the "Equal Rights" faction of the Supreme Soviet as a NGO in 1993. The Equal Rights faction () had been founded in April, 1990, after the 1990 Latvian parliamentary election. The NGO transformed into a party in 1996. Its leaders were MPs Tatjana Ždanoka and Sergejs Dīmanis. The organization participated in the 1994 municipal election and the 1995 legislative election within the Socialist Party of Latvia list. In 1998, ER joined with two other predominantly Russian parties, the Latvian Socialist Party and the National Harmony Party to found the alliance For Human Rights in United Latvia (; ForHRUL). The Equal Rights Party was the name for several different nineteenth-century political parties in the United States. The first party was the Locofocos, during the 1830s and 1840s. The Anti-Rent party during the Anti-Rent War was also known by this name during the 1840s and 1850s. Another party by this name ran Victoria Woodhull for President of the United States and Frederick Douglass for Vice President of the United States in the 1872 presidential election. It was also known as the People's Party, the Cosmo-Political Party and the National Radical Reformers.
