Sadia Sadia is a Canadian-born British installation artist, known for her audiovisual media work, incorporating sound and images, both still and moving. Education Sadia received her MSc in Political Science and Economics (Gender, Culture and Society) from Birkbeck, University of London in 1994, MA in Design Studies from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts in 2001, and PhD in Fine Art from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 2019. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Career Music From 1978 to 1993, Sadia worked largely with the Canadian guitar player David Wilcox, producing nine albums including ''Out of the Woods'', ''My Eyes Keep Me in Trouble'', ''Bad Reputation'', ''Breakfast at the Circus'', and ''The Natural Edge'', four of which reached gold or platinum status in Canada. The Noon Gun
''The Noon Gun'' is a 2004 documentary film directed by Anthony Stern. In 1971, the experimental film maker Anthony Stern travelled to Afghanistan with his 16 mm film camera. The footage was lost for almost 30 years. Recently rediscovered, it forms the basis of this impressionistic documentary, with an original soundtrack provided by the world fusion musicians Equa. ''The Noon Gun'' had its world premiere at the 53rd Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) in 2004. It premiered in the UK at the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television in Bradford (now the National Media Museum), September 2004. In 2005 it also featured as part of 'Films From The South' Festival in Oslo, Norway. Anthony Stern
Anthony Stern (26 October 1944 – 10 February 2022) was a British experimental filmmaker and glass maker. He first started making films while at Cambridge University, then worked as assistant to the avant-garde documentary film maker Peter Whitehead. Biography Stern was born in Cambridge, England, on 26 October 1944. At the age of 18, Stern and Syd Barrett held a joint painting exhibition in Cambridge. He later moved to London and became involved in the film and music scene. Stern made films, took photographs, and amassed a body of work which eventually grew into an archive. Stern developed the concept of the impressionistic documentary with his BFI financed work San Francisco: Film, which was produced by Iris Sawyer, Jeremy Mitchell, Anthony and his friend Alan Callan. The film was cut to one of the first recordings of "Interstellar Overdrive" performed by Pink Floyd, whose lead guitarist Syd Barrett was a friend of Stern's. The ARIA Music Awards, ARIA Music Award for Best World Music Album, is an award presented within the Fine Arts Awards at the annual ARIA Music Awards. Syd Barrett
Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett (6 January 1946 – 7 July 2006) was an English singer, songwriter, and musician who co-founded the rock band Pink Floyd in 1965. Barrett was their original frontman and primary songwriter, becoming known for his whimsical style of psychedelia, English-accented singing, and stream-of-consciousness writing style. As a guitarist, he was influential for his free-form playing and for employing effects such as dissonance, distortion, echo and feedback. Originally trained as a painter, Barrett was musically active for less than ten years. With Pink Floyd, he recorded four singles, their debut album ''The Piper at the Gates of Dawn'' (1967), portions of their second album '' A Saucerful of Secrets'' (1968), and several unreleased songs. Darrin Verhagen is an Australian-born composer of dark ambient and gothic music. He has adopted several different monikers for his recorded output, depending on the genre including Shinjuku Thief, Shinjuku Filth and Professor Richmann. . After his first album '' Bloody Tourist'' was released, Verhagen founded Dorobo Records which he has continued to issue his music through. The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) is a museum located in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. The QVMAG is the largest museum in Australia not located in a capital city. History The foundation stone for the original building to house the Victoria Museum and Art Gallery was laid by the Mayor of Launceston, Robert Carter, on 21 June 1887. Alexander Morton, of the museum in Hobart, acted as honorary curator from its opening in 1891 until 1896, with Herbert Hedley Scott assuming the role of curator in May 1897.
