The Episcopal Diocese of Western Kansas, created in 1971, is the diocese of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America with jurisdiction over western Kansas. It was formerly the Missionary District of Salina until 1960 and then the Missionary District of Western Kansas until 1971. It is in Province 7. Its cathedral, Christ Episcopal Cathedral, is in Salina. The Episcopal Church, based in the United States with additional dioceses elsewhere, is a member church of the worldwide Anglican Communion. It is a mainline Protestant denomination and is divided into nine provinces. The Episcopal Church (TEC) is governed by a General Convention and consists of 99 dioceses in the United States proper, plus eleven dioceses in other countries or outlying U.S. territories and the diocese of Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe, for a total of 2 dioceses. Michael Pierce Milliken
Michael Pierce Milliken (born March 13, 1947) was the fifth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Kansas from 2011 until 2018. Biography Milliken was born on March 13, 1947, in Lexington, Kentucky. He studied at the University of Kentucky from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1970. Later he also attended the and Berkeley Divinity School and the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Kentucky from where he graduated in 1973 with a Master of Divinity. He also studied for a Master of Arts in Theology at Xavier University, which he earned in 1993. He was ordained deacon on May 26, 1973, and then priest on November 30, 1973. Between 1973 and 1977 he served as vicar of St Matthew's Church before becoming rector of Grace Church in Florence, Kentucky, a position he held until 1998. He then became rector of Grace Church in Hutchinson, Kansas. On August 21, 2010, Milliken was elected on the second ballot as Bishop of Western Kansas and was consecrated on February 19, 2011. ... William Davidson (bishop)
William Davidson (July 20, 1919 - May 8, 2006) was bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Kansas, serving as diocesan from 1966 to 1980. Early life and education Davidson was born on July 20, 1919, in Miles City, Montana. He studied at the Montana State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1940. He then taught Vocational Agriculture in Sidney, Montana, until 1943 when he enrolled at Berkeley Divinity School to train for the priesthood. He earned a Bachelor of Sacred Theology in 1946. On June 3, 1942, he married Mary Shoemaker and together had four children. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity by Berkeley Divinity School in 1966, and an honorary Doctor of Laws from the Lexington Theological Seminary in 1978.
